With ios14.8 my ipad4 has slowed down greatly, Duolingo app is misfiring, Gmail is slow, etc. What can one do about this?

No one here works for Apple.

We are all, largely, just Apple product users here, just like you!

Apple would like its iOS device users to NOT constantly quit apps, but to do that, you need toggle OFF Background App Refresh under Settings, General, to make sure no apps are getting any background app data from the Internet.

Even with doing that, apps CAN still use up some RAM and CPU cycles, regardless.

If you have a 2015 iPad Mini 4, that iPad model ONLY has 2 GBs of internal processing RAM.

Most iPad models these days have a minimum of 3 GBs of internal processing RAM and many have 4 GBs of internal RAM and up!

I find if you have a lot of apps hanging in the iOS background app switcher ( like 20 or even more ) it is much better to quit/clear out any apps that you do not access every single day and maybe pair the list down to around 20 apps or less.

If you have like 50+ apps hanging in the app switcher, it is just going to bog down response of an iPad over time.

Hey Michel:. I appreciate your efforts to help me, are you with Apple or just a nice computer nerd? I used to swipe closed my apps when finished using them, but one article I've read said don't do that! Have tried both ways these past couple of days- I would like to know once and forever which way is best. Re the other question Yes I tend to have a bunch of tabs going at once and have reduced that these past two days. However I always had a dozen tabs going (mostly on chrome) before this week and the problem only developed this week-since the urgent iOS update.
