iTunes version 12.12.0.6 only works on English-language Windows, crashes on startup when Windows UI is in a different language

As several people (including myself) are currently discussing, the latest iTunes for Windows, version 12.12.0.6, often crashes on startup complaining about missing required files; this only happens with the latest version, and it has been suggested as a temporary fix to install an older one.

After a lot of investigation, it has been discovered that this is a language-related bug: it only happens on non-english systems (Italian and German have been tested); if the Windows UI is in English, iTunes works correctly.

Also, this is specifically related to the Windows UI language: regional settings such as time/date format and keyboard layout don't change the outcome, and selecting any language for iTunes itself during the iTunes setup doesn't affect the issue.

Hope this helps in finding and fixing the bug.

Note that it's English (United States) that is specifically required as well. The other versions of English also don't work. I have English (United Kingdom) and that won't load either, giving the same error message. I've switched my Win10 20H2 build to English (United States) and am now back in business with this as a workaround until Apple fix this problem and I can switch my language back.

Good that they stopped enrollment but it’s too little too late. Many many thousands already taken the plunge. They need to push a new update pronto via Apple software update and in ms store. I am not comfortable uninstalling iTunes and putting an older version up in case it has nasty side effects on my carefully built up library of music. The language change might be an idea but I am worried about unforeseen side effects in my system on other stuff if that is done. I am trying to patiently wait for a new version to be pushed but it is very frustrating. I just hope when and if an update arrives no damage is already done. I already went into control panel and selected repair. Then downloaded via browser the version again and installed, was given option to repair and went for that again. This was all before the bug causing it became clear or else I’d of held off. Same end result anyway. Just hope the library isn’t hosed up.

Looks like a new version may be with all of us soon. I don’t use the store version and avoid Microsoft’s store like the plague. So waiting for the traditional delivery method of ‘Apple software update’ to offer a new version. So far nothing showing up as says I am up to date. I even went to the website for iTunes to download the windows 64 bit version via my browser. But the installer fails saying a newer version exists on my pc. So I am assuming that version is still not updated to 12.12.1.1 bit frustrating, hope this version will get pushed soon via apple software update and my library setup isn’t affected by all this (that’s why I haven’t uninstalled iTunes and put an earlier version on as don’t want to take any risks with my matched library)
