Can no longer keep favourites side bar expanded in Safari 15

I recently updated my iMac to Safari 15. Up to this update I was able to keep my Favourites in the SideBar extended permanently to show all my favourites. With this update I now have to click Bookmarks in the side bar or under View select Show Favourites Bar, but it does not "hold" permanently.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks

Apple Support just figured this out for me. In Preferences -> General, "Safari opens with:" was set to "A New Window". We changed it to "All windows from last session". Now if I close Safari and re-open it, the sidebar comes back just the way I left it. I don't know if it matters but "New windows open with:" is set to "Same Page".

Well write a certified letter to Apple, keep calling them and check back here.

but i warn you that ppl i know who worked with Apple limit the number of features to their apps for simplicity, they even limited the spell checking so your device runs smoother so dont be alarmed, be Patient and hope they swap a feature by the next major upgrade just around election year.

Hi DugE. Many thanks for this update. I wonder if you could advise me on the Safari Technology Preview. I have never used it so I have some concerns downloading onto my Mac (OSX Big Sur). I have always steered clear of Beta versions of software in case they cause more issues than benefits and I am therefore a bit wary of the Safari Technology Preview in case it brings with it all the hazards of Beta versions. I guess the root of my question is whether if I do decide to download and install it can I go back and remove it if I have issues?

Hi. Thank you for your excellent response. Fully understand now. Thought I would reply back with my experience. From what I can see there is no difference, in fact if anything slightly worse. When I close STP with my side bar and bookmarks open then reopen SPT the side bar has gone and I have to both reopen the side bar and click for the bookmarks. Applying under View>Show Bookmarks Sidebar makes no difference in terms of retaining the setting after closing STP. My STP is running under Big Sur so it would be good to see if others can download the STP and see if it is still a problem in Big Sur for them and also whether those operating with OSX Monterey applying the STP for Monterey find the issue has been resolved.

Are we the only minority that seems to be bothered by this so much? It's been over 2 month now and there is still not a fix to this.

I did recognize after upgrading to Monterey, the search window within the sidebar is lining up correctly, not cut off. However, I still can't believe the latest layout would be acceptable under Apple's programming quality standards. Look at the title Tab Group crosses the section divider line, it makes no sense??!@#

I actually brought this up at the Apple Store and they acted like they had not heard of it- which I took as "I don't know how to fix it." They tried to side-step by saying the latest update would bring it back..... NOT. They were only interested in selling, not talking care of their customers needs. I am very, very disappointed in the reaction and the vague concern for customers needs.

I agree, I am very disappointed that they have not sent a fix out- or maybe they do not care about keeping a loyal customer base any longer? I fight to keep my Apple at work- my organization no longer wants to support a more expensive product and with the security offerings in todays tech world- Apple doesn't offer much more... they need to get on this and make their products work instead of making us click more to get where we need to go. Give us the advantage instead of egg on face.
