Scroll to: Reset the Home Screen and Apps to their Original Layout

1. Go to: Settings
2. Tap: General
3. Tap: Reset
4. Tap: Reset Home Screen Layout

To have small icons go to Settings > Tap Home Screen & Dock and turn off small icons.

My husband figured out a fix. Click on the "+" on the upper left corner and choose a widget to add. For some reason this corrects the layout for me.

I hear ya. A frustrating time-waster if you have a lot of apps and folders. Not sure how this got through. But here's a goofy workaround: you used to have 5 icons per row, now you have 6 which has caused all your icons, groups and pages to be thrown completely out of whack. If you rotate your iPad from landscape to portrait, you'll have 5 across. Back to where they used to be.

This happened here as well to 7th gen iPads 10.2" as soon as they were updated to iOS 15. It changes the location of every icon and group (of which there are many) so we're relearning everything.

There used to be a setting for icon spacing. I don't see it anymore. I suppose that's been removed for reasons known to Apple.

More cramped, but lots of 'margin' space, another step down in aesthetics.

I did the reset, and the icons were bigger. All were listed alphabetically. When I started to make folders, the same thing happened, the individual apps shrunk to unreadable size within the folder. ☹️.

This is a software change to make allow the widgets to work but I honestly don’t see the point, I’d rather have my today view back as an option and reduce my margins on my Home Screen I’ve tried putting it in the feedback section multiple times but IT doesn’t change anything maybe if more people ask for the change they might be able to fix it.

I have the exact same problem on all four of our iPads, caused by update to iOS 15. The above rec under settings... Homescreen. Dock doesn't correct. Come on Apple figure this out with 15.0.1

Sorry, I left that part out. Tap and hold any app icon. All icons will show an x in the corner, and you'll see the x in the upper left.

We see you're trying to enlarge the app icon size on your iPad. You can do that by going to Settings > Home Screen & Dock, from there you should be able to change the size of the apps to your preference.

I also have tried the recommended steps to make the icons larger on my iPad mini, but my app icons and even my keyboard keys are still much smaller than before I updated to iOS 15. This is hard on my vision and very disappointing. There should have been a warning. Rolling back to the previous iOS version would be much better, but that isn’t an option either. ☹️

Thank you, Matthew. I tried “turn on large icons” before I posted. This thread turned up while searching for possible solutions. The icons may have changed a little after turning on large icons, but they are not “large” or the size before the update.

I have the same problem, and every day I do as you suggest to see if I get a different response (the definition of insanity, I know!) I, too, have most of my apps in folders, done before the update did it. The print on the icons is so small you can’t read it. So, you click which then enlarges the folder, and then click on the app. What a backstep this is—adding extra clicks for the response in this update.

will it help if I get rid of the new “library” system? If so, how do I do so?

Just a heads-up there Jay_Krew, looks like this will indeed get your icon spacing back to normal, but it also completely resets all home screens and loses layout of all folders/groups.

Hopefully, Apple will put back the ability to space apps and folders as before. It'd take too long to clear every screen and reorganize with wiggly jumpy things.
