Apple Mail on iOS15 / Outlook.com MFA Application pwd

Hi,

Hi,

Since the update to iOS 15 on my iphone 12 pro, the mail app prompt me to indicate my password for my outlook.com account with mfa enabled and telling me it’s wrong. Everything was working well on ios14.

I have multiple outlook.com registered on my ios mail app but only the one with mfa causing the issue.

changing the app password on my security settings on microsoft website works but after few hours the issue is happening again.

any bug on ios15 mail that is explaining this?

I too had this problem recently after updating to IOS 15.2 on my iPad and iPhone. Both devices had trouble verifying my personal Outlook account from Settings > Mail > Accounts. I have verified that I entered the right password since I could login to my Outlook from browser just fine.

I too have tried deleting, rebooting, and adding the account back (by adding Outlook.com). This did not work at all, as I encountered the same issue (unable to verify my account)

The fix: The only resolution for me to is to add “Exchange” rather than “Outlook.com”. This method worked well and I was able to login, sync my mails, reminders, notes, etc. Give it a try and hopefully it will fix your connection issue.

Hello all,

Look I do not know if this is the issue or not, but I have managed to fix it. I don't know if it will ask me to put my password again after few hours... I guess I will find out later.

As for now... Investigations show that if I login to My Office on web browser then navigate to settings and then to sign ins... all my recent sign ins are from a different country (i.e. United States) whereas I am living in Australia. My company's policy does not allow to sign in from United States.

So that prompted me to go check my VPN and surely my VPN is on "Always On" for privacy/security purposes. I turned this off temporarily and tried to sign in... guess what it worked and also on my recent sign ins, it shows Australia.

So, I am pre-maturely concluding that this might be the issue, but it can be different. Try it, maybe this works for you too.

I have turned my VPN back on and send a test email... all works... not sure for how long but worth giving it a go...

If you don't have a VPN, try your mobile security app... maybe firewall issue... i don't know... just guessing here...

The fix is easier to do on a desktop, but can be done on Safari. Open a browser or Safari and go to iCloud.com and log into your account. Choose the Account Settings link in the top middle of the page. At the top right of the page your time zone should be displayed. Even if it looks correct you need to click the time zone. That will bring up a map where you can click on your correct time zone. If you are in Safari don’t click the map, just click in the box on the map with the city name. That will pop up a list where you can choose your correct city closest to you an in your time zone. I clicked on Washington DC since I’m in Eastern time. Click Done and look at the top right to verify the time zone is correct. Then reboot all iOS devices and cross your fingers.

I think you are on to something there with the Outlook account on multiple devices. I have that account on my iPhone and my iPad and I get the password incorrect for Exchange account once per day per device. I have deleted the account from my iPhone and then added it back and that didn’t help. I still get the message on both devices. Just now I deleted the Exchange account from my iPad. I’m going to leave it deleted for now and see if I continue to get the message on my iPhone or not. If I don’t get the message for a couple of days then I will add it back to my iPad and see if it starts again with the same message. If it does then I will delete the Exchange account from my iPhone for a couple days and see if I get the message. If I don’t get the message when either one is the sole device with the account on it then I will know that the problem is related to the account being on multiple devices at the same time. This could also narrow it down to see if the iPad is the one causing it or if it is the iPhone is causing it.

We're experiencing the same issue as well. Multiple users and iPhone models. We are an on premise Exchange environment. This happened after devices with Exchange mail accounts updated to iOS 15.0-15.0.2. Security Authentication logs show accounts checking in with bad passwords coming from the mobile device IPs. The accounts are getting locked out and random times in the evening, prompting users for their passwords. We're having to unlock the accounts each morning and have suggested to all users not update the phones to iOS 15.

I do not sync contacts with outlook.com so it is not enabled. As of 12/16 I am no longer able to use the mail app with an outlook.com personal account configured with MFA. You can setup the account but only get the message: "Account Error" at he bottom of the mail app. Upon clicking details you then get "Cannot get Mail: The connection to the server failed"

Removing MFA is not an option. There is also no method of entering the app password. It should also be noted that using the Outlook mail app works fine.

I already tried that one. I deleted it from my iPad and I still have the issue. Try logging out of your iCloud account on either device and then add the exchange account back. Leave the iCloud account logged out for a couple days. If you don’t get prompted for your exchange password, log back into your iCloud account.

I will bet that almost immediately after you’re logged in, you’ll be prompted for your exchange password.
