Apple Mail on iOS15 / Outlook.com MFA Application pwd

Hi,

Hi,

Since the update to iOS 15 on my iphone 12 pro, the mail app prompt me to indicate my password for my outlook.com account with mfa enabled and telling me it’s wrong. Everything was working well on ios14.

I have multiple outlook.com registered on my ios mail app but only the one with mfa causing the issue.

changing the app password on my security settings on microsoft website works but after few hours the issue is happening again.

any bug on ios15 mail that is explaining this?

I too had this problem recently after updating to IOS 15.2 on my iPad and iPhone. Both devices had trouble verifying my personal Outlook account from Settings > Mail > Accounts. I have verified that I entered the right password since I could login to my Outlook from browser just fine.

I too have tried deleting, rebooting, and adding the account back (by adding Outlook.com). This did not work at all, as I encountered the same issue (unable to verify my account)

The fix: The only resolution for me to is to add “Exchange” rather than “Outlook.com”. This method worked well and I was able to login, sync my mails, reminders, notes, etc. Give it a try and hopefully it will fix your connection issue.

Hi sebastien156,

We understand that you're being prompted to enter the password for your Outlook account in the Mail app, and we'd like to help however we can.

You mentioned that the issue is only happening with a specific Outlook account; just to confirm, does the error appear after you attempt to do something specific in Mail with that account? For example, does it appear after attempting to send an email?

If you're unable to send email, please check out this link for some helpful information: If you can’t send email on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

"If Mail asks you to enter a password for your email account, make sure that your password is correct. To check your email address and password, sign in to your email provider's website.

If you still get a user name or password error, contact your email provider or system administrator."

Take care!

+2 instances.

Since upgrade to iOS 15 myself and another in the same org both have started getting prompted for password periodically. password is KNOWN correct. Submitting the password pacified the app for a while then it comes back a while later.

Both of us are on O365 and 3rd party MFA. The “Outlook on iOS“ app does not have the issue, but when opening the iOS Contacts or Mail app, we get prompted for the password.

I reiterate: the password works fine. We have followed the steps in the article below and it only temporarily works around the issue. It doesn’t fix it. It’s basically the same result as entering the password again. It works for a little while then prompts later in the day.

Im not sure if this is relevant, but I have outlook configured on two devices, ipad and Iphone.

every time is asking to input passwords on one of the devices. The other one will fail to open outlook

it seem is resetting the password to the previous one some how.

The point being I suspect two devices cant have running outlook simultaneously, but is just a hunch, apple should check in to this.

On an iPad 6th generation, I upgraded to 15.2 on 14 Dec 2021 began to observe the problem on the evening of 15 Dec.

(I have not observed the problem for the same outlook accounts on an iPhone 7 also running ios15.2)

The problem occurred for both outlook accounts in my accounts list.

I was repeatedly prompted for both passwords.

I would re enter the password, but nothing seemed to happen when I hit the submit button.

when I looked at the account, I could see that it was still requesting I re enter the password.

I restarted the iPad and still observed the same behavior.

I deleted one of the outlook accounts but could not add it again. Today, the one remaining outlook account seems fine.

I attempted deleting and re-adding one of the outlook accounts, but cannot re-add the account.

1) I tested my username/password combination by logging in via the outlook.com web interface.

2) I used “add account”, typed in the username and password when prompted, then used the “Submit” button

3) I observed that the process stopped at that point - I was looking at the list of accounts. The new account was not added.

There were no error messages or any other type of message after I used the “submit” button.

After updating to iOS 15 my iPhone keeps making me enter the passwords for my outlook.com and hotmail.com email addresses as well. I enter it and it’s good for a few hours then it asks for it again. It’s super annoying every time I open mail or calendar or settings to have several pop up windows immediately pop up asking for the passwords to each of my Microsoft accounts.

I am having the same issue but with a different type of account. My setup is for a Google work email account. Due to MFA, I’m forced to use an app password for iPhone setup. The configuration has always been to set it up as an Outlook account and use the created app password. This has worked for a number of years, but after I purchased a new iPhone 13 Pro and upgraded to iOS 15 I am asked for that app password every day. Putting in the correct app password will work, but there is no reason why I should have to keep doing this. It must be a bug. My other email accounts are fine.
