SOLVED.

talked to apple tech and was told to restart the phone.

after restart, went to settings for "Update Apple ID Setttings ..... (1)" and entered appleID pw. this time it went through and "Update Apple ID Setttings ..... (1)" message disappeared.

after that, "restore in progress. an estimated xx.xGB will be required to finish restoring your apps and data" numbers started to actually decrease.

I have had the same issue

This happened after an upgrade from XS to 13Pro using iCloud backup+restore.

This is not gonna be the bestest deluxe pro guide ever but I did all the below and it did the trick for me, the above msg disappeared.

Some of these do not make sense at all, but they did not harm either.

  • changed pw for my AppleID (this was a recommendation from apple support. I did not go for sign out all accounts as it would have stopped the restoration and I wouldn't have had a clue what was the missing 100MB) (spoiler alert: I have no clue still :))
  • changed network (actually same network, but swapped to 5GHz to 2GHz)
  • disabled mobile data (I know restore requires wifi, but I did read this somewhere that might disturb restoration)
  • I checked all my apps if any of them were stuck (eg loading), but I could open all of them
  • I started to delete few of my (non native apps) that I knew did not have any data to back up (data stored in the cloud). I deleted 10+ (delete app, not just remove from home screen)

I feel the last one did the trick. Sorry I cannot share what apps I deleted (I hez privacy lol, but gmail was one of them with 3 accounts.

Hope this helped.

For me it was a book that wasn’t downloading. Before figuring that out, I changed the Apple ID password, turned off wifi, turned on 2.4 network, turned off cellular data and restarted. None of my apps were in progress. I went to Books and one book was at 78% and another at 2%. I deleted the file at 2%. That did it. The restore message was automatically removed. And I was able to update iOS to 15.4 and back up to iCloud. I suspect that an app, or media purchase not downloaded correctly will prevent a full restore.

My Restore process took over almost 30 hours. Almost all Apps where only partially loaded, and the phone looked stuck.

What I did:

I Shut it down and UP.

Made a HardReset.

Turned Off Cellular, Bluetooth and Wifi.

Turned WIFI back ON.

Pressed on some Apps long to choose "Priorize download"

Pressed on all stucked Apps to PAUSE them.

==> and then suddenly I saw other Apps finally continuing downloading and finalizing.

So I continued randomly to Pause and priorate till I had them all.

So I could finish the Restore.....BUT Apple -> Please address this. I think it happens when you have a lot of photos and Apps on your phone....

I’m new to the community but I have some experience in operating systems and Linux.

it sounds to me that you need to reset the whole process.

first reset iPhone pro max to factory ( you can do that using iTunes on a PC or MAC through the lightning connector USB )

then boot the phone and configure your internet connection and so on, then setup the restore process.

if it continues to fail, write a support ticket for Apple unless you know of a way to see the verbose logs during the restore yourself.

My iPad was stuck at 100MB overnight. I restarted it based on a comment in this post. It went back to 3.6GB and then back down to 100MB. Then it went back to 3.6GB again and back down, this time all the way till the message went away. I don’t think I did anything else significant other than reinstalling an app. All seems fine now.

This thread helped me fix my issue but my problem wasn’t as complex. Maybe this help someone out there -

My iPhone 13 Pro Max was stuck in the restore process and was not letting me install the new iOS update.

I discovered my iPhone was not completing a current backup. So I canceled the backup then restarted the backup. All was fixed after that backup was complete. (Settings - Clicked my name at the top - iCloud - iCloud Backup)

I did not have the issue that the word “Never” was next to my iCloud back up status so my apologies I can’t help those with that.

I didn’t lose any photos or current info on my phone.

Good luck to those who still need a fix. I hope you get one soon.
