iPhone 13 notification sound too low

I got my iPhone 13 3 days ago, after using it for 2 full days, I realized that the notification sound is way too low. It applies to WhatsApp, iMessage, email etc. Even though I set all volume to the loudest; and googled how to fix it online then tried everything posted on the internet but still didn't improve.

I changed from iPhone XR to iPhone 13, but my iPhone XR with iOS 14 was perfectly fine, the notification sound was very loud with no issue at all.

ANSWER -- SOLVED

Got to Settings--Accessibility--Face ID & Attention and turn "Attention Aware Features" OFF. If this is set to on and you are using the phone when an alert is triggered, the iphone when locked will lower the volume of "some alerts." Setting this to OFF made my iPhone 13 work the same as my iPhone 6 used to work--volume "sticks" for all alerts.

I have this same issue. It started with my iPhone X, now happening again with my iPhone 13 but seems worse. I can’t get the notifications from my son’s glucose monitor that I follow loud enough to wake me up at night. That terrifies me because the consequences could be fatal. I’ve considered connecting to a Bluetooth speaker at night. I always turn my phone all the way up both by turning up the ringer and overall volume and it’s still like the notification volume is stuck at 40%.

Of course they're ignoring this issue. Next I'm week going to the apple store to make them give me a new phone until they fix the issue. If you have warranty and apple care they will have to give u a new phone if you show them the volume of the notification is not working properly. One just needs to do that enough time so they start giving a **** about all these new iPhones getting out of their inventory without extra money 😈

I’m almost sure your iPhone 8 has this issue too. Since iOS 14 all iPhones behave like this. I also have an iPhone 8 with this notification volume problem.

This isn't exactly true. I've switched from i8 on iOS15.1 to i13 and the difference is huge. On i8 you can hear notification in a room from across ten meters when Volume is three steps from minimum. On i13 you can barelly hear it when volume is on maximum. I also have another i8 (bussines phone) on iOS15.1 also without notification volume problem. My wife's and my friend's i13 also have low notification sound problem. For me and my friend this is a HUGE problem as we are first responders in Croatian mountain rescue service where our primary notification tool is WhatsApp group.

Same problem for me. But I'm not convinced it's just a software fault. I don't trade in my old phones. Which means I have an iPhone 7, XR, and 13 Pro Max all running iOS 15.2. Only the 13 Pro Max has the issue of notification sounds being about half the volume of the other phones. And this is with each phone set to the same volume level.

I'm losing my hearing and need the sound to be at least its originally intended volume as present on all older models. So this, for me, is an accessibility issue. One that should be fixed sooner rather than later.

So I have an i13 and it was driving me crazy. I called support based upon this discussion and they made me download the latest update. After that, I called back and the support person talked me through literally 25 different things, like turning notifications off then back on, and all kinds of weird stuff that I didn’t really pay attention to because I assumed it was just something they have to do. Then we sent a test and it still didn’t work. I hung up, frustrated, restarted my phone, and it mysteriously started working and has been working ever since. I have no idea how it happened but I’m thrilled. That was Thursday morning Dec 30. Keeping my fingers crossed.

You should all do what I did and return the phone. Over £1300 for a phone where you can't even hear the notifications!! That should be the absolute basic a phone should be doing in this day and age. Absolute garbage and a total waste of money. From what I'm reading this isn't only the iphone 13 it's also a problem with the 12 and apple haven't done nothing about it.

Updated iOs to 15.2 (19D50) and the low sound for alerts is STILL not fixed. When you scroll down to select another sound in the timer app, the preview of the sound is loud (controlled by volume setting), but when you set the new sound and then run the timer again the sound is muted just as before. If your volume is set to 50% or less, it is basically inaudible by the human ear. If your volume is set to 100%, it is basically whisper volume. For me text alerts and the alarm volume are fixed, but the timer end sound is STILL not working correctly.

Hi NeurologicalFunk

I synced my iPhone 3 pro to iTunes on my iMac

Go to View > Show Sidebar > Library > Devices > iPhone > Tones folder > Drop & drag .m4r files from desktop folder > Unplug iPhone > Settings > Sounds & Haptics > you should now see your Ringtone files.

I think there maybe a shortcut using GarageBand How To Make Ringtones With GarageBand (Mac and iOS)

Hope that works for you.

I contacted Apple support about this problem a few days ago. They tried to solve my problem on very weak notification tones. The first time, they failed to fix it and called me again the next day to continue. Still they failed to fix my problem so they called the third time the next day but still failed. In the end they told me there is nothing wrong with my iPhone and that the notification tones are weaker than ringtones normally. They requested me to send a feedback to Apple regarding this matter. Now it is clear from your post that this is an Apple software problem. I don't understand why the Apple support team don't know about this and instead waste their time trying to fix the problem.
