iPhone 13 notification sound too low

I got my iPhone 13 3 days ago, after using it for 2 full days, I realized that the notification sound is way too low. It applies to WhatsApp, iMessage, email etc. Even though I set all volume to the loudest; and googled how to fix it online then tried everything posted on the internet but still didn't improve.

I changed from iPhone XR to iPhone 13, but my iPhone XR with iOS 14 was perfectly fine, the notification sound was very loud with no issue at all.

Hi Joey_Chan_HK,

From your post, it sounds like the notification sound on your iPhone 13 is low. Let's try the steps mentioned here: Adjust the volume on iPhone - Apple Support

Do you have Do Not Disturb enabled? Have you checked each app's settings individually to make sure that notifications are set correctly? Do you have a Bluetooth device connected to the iPhone? If so, let's double check to make sure the audio isn't being pushed to the Bluetooth device.

Take care.

I realized the phone wants to control my life when the sounds seem to be getting muted.

I switched from my I phone 7 to this one because of lagginess and some quirks! Now After a$2k plus purchase it’s Apple that sucks. My iPhone max pro, locks up, lags out, my apps crash, it hides what I am currently using, Hides my calendar, screen blacks out when I try to select speaker when I am on a call, The stupid face recognition is so worthless as I constantly have to be typing in my password. I wish I wouldn’t of spent the money for more bugs on a phone, my iPhone 7 was just perfectly fine, maybe not perfectly but a lot less stressful. .. oh and the cameras are awful they are literally awful as they have a hard time focusing.

I don’t need Apple holding my hand, let me do what I want when I want it. Mother Apple!!

Even I had a similar issue with my iPhone 13. It was frustrating , though I resolved it. The notification for WhatsApp is directly linked to iPhone audio volume in iphone 13. Whether it’s an iPhone issue or WhatsApp not sure . I was able to get all other notification when my phone’s volume was low. Normally I keep my volume at 0 and only increase it when I need It.

I posted this same problem weeks ago. Thanks to all those that shared fixes that worked for them. I tried them all and none of them worked for me. I spent numerous hours on Apple Support today. Here is today's outcome:

My first stop was Apple Support Online Chat. The gentlemen was very polite, kind, and tried to be helpful. He asked me to do a couple of things that were suggested in our Apple Support Community that I had already done. I then sent him the link to our Apple Support Community with this problem. After he reviewed it my chat was immediately escalated to the next level of support. The Support Specialist was on-spot. She understood the frustrations I have been going through. She explained to me that we were going to go thru many of 'exercises' that was suggested by all of this support community but had to do it to document info. She made it very clear that this was going to take some time, and I agreed. After a long time on the phone (due to backups, restores, etc....) the problem still existed. This problem was then escalated to top-priority, engineers and/or programmers. We have a confirmed meeting for Monday morning with them. Yes, this was a very long time on the phone ... and I do mean hours; but well worth it. When I told these people there were hundreds of others having this same problem how has it gone unnoticed? She told me that people were not willing to call Support and take the time to go thru a total analysis of the problem.

I will share my outcome with all of you; hopefully early next week.

In the meantime, call Apple Support or Apple Support Chat and make sure you have the link to this website to share with them. It says volumes!

I have reported this issue more than 20 times via feedback app since 2020 when iPhone 12 came out.

I don’t want to call them on purpose, because they always do the same thing.

They want to check your device , they want you to perform all sort of tests, analysis, restarts and reset keeping you on the phone for hours.

For this specific issue I have tested iPhones on every chance I could.

6s, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 13 in malls, Apple store in front of them, from friends, just doing a simple test: in “sound&haptics, volume all the way up and assigned the same sound to ringtone and text tone.

I choose “Sonar” because is very loud.

Ringtone “Sonar” and Text Tone “Sonar”.

All those iPhones behaved in the same way: Alerts volume was and is too low, I miss a lot of notifications, all iPhones have this issue and it’s unacceptable for a 1000$ device. Period.

I presume almost all Apple engineers have an iPhone, for personal use or for work. How is it possible they didn’t notice this problem even on their own phone?

The issue has been reported several times by several customers, the engineers are aware of the issue and they should perform all those analysis on their own iPhones and fix it.

Hi all.

As I mentioned in this thread, I'm having the exact same problem. Unfortunately, it seems I have no way to change the notification volume for apps such as Whatsapp as they have the default notification sounds only within the app itself and I don't think it's possible on iPhone to change it to a custom ringtone (if anyone knows how to do this, I'll pay you with part of my soul for such knowledge! XD) However, I seem to have found a solution for email notifications/texts etc. What I've done is got hold of an mp3 apple notification tone online (or use whatever sound you'd like), imported it to Garageband, maxed the volume and exported it. I've done that a couple of times to get to the desired sound level. Then, the last time export it from Garageband, set it as a notification sound when prompted, then select it for your email/text notification sound and, hey, alerts that are audible!

I find it utterly ridiculous that Apple has not managed to fix this issue yet. I bought the iPhone 13 Pro Max outright and, as I'm sure you're aware, they are not cheap! As I have 2 jobs and one is running an Air bnb accommodation, I have actually missed important emails/messages making an impact on my income! This is my first iPhone and if I'm being honest, I love the phone... Apart from this serious issue! It's a "notification" alert, it's supposed to "notify" you! Come on Apple, please fix this ASAP. I shouldn't have had to find a fix myself and it's not perfect, but it means me purchasing your phone isn't costing me money now from missed business opportunities. I still miss Whatsapp messages, but that looks like it's something I'm going to have to deal with as it seems not too much is being done about this problem.

One last point, what are people who are slightly hard of hearing supposed to do? Totally unacceptable and it's causing a LOT of grief to iPhone owners.

Please, please, please Apple fix!

Hi NeurologicalFunk

I synced my iPhone 3 pro to iTunes on my iMac

Go to View > Show Sidebar > Library > Devices > iPhone > Tones folder > Drop & drag .m4r files from desktop folder > Unplug iPhone > Settings > Sounds & Haptics > you should now see your Ringtone files.

I think there maybe a shortcut using GarageBand How To Make Ringtones With GarageBand (Mac and iOS)

Hope that works for you.

Hi MiffyO

Thanks for that! I was just wondering though, I have a mid 2012 Macbook Pro and it's running Catalina. Now when I follow your instructions, I'm not getting very far. I have Apple Music, not iTunes and don't see any of the options you've previously mentioned. I'm guessing you're running an earlier operating system?

Before we go into that though, I think you misunderstood my problem possibly? I've used GarageBand to create ringtones/notification alerts no problem at all. My problem is Whatsapp specific notification tones (As they're ridiculously quiet). When I go into the Whatsapp notification settings, they're are literally only a set few tones that do not include any of my custom tones at all. It has 2 lots of alert tones... "Alert tones" and "Classic". It literally has no option to use any custom ones which I've already created.

If you have a way around this, it would be amazing if you could share this!

Thanks again and sorry to bother you! =)
