Navigation voice volume

Navigation voice volume in Apple maps is missing in iOS 15. It is annoying to hear the map whispering the direction if I play music in my car. I don’t even use the Apple Music app. I use Spotify. How on earth can Apple bring back the Navigation voice volume in Apple Maps.

This is not correct. Adjusting the volume with the side buttons is global. It will also make the music play louder. There should be an independent way to adjust the navigation volume, but it was removed.

Admittedly, this is a workaround not a fix, but if you are using Spotify, you can turn down the volume of your Spotify app and the map will be louder in comparison. In the Spotify app, from the home page, tap the settings gear, go to Playback, and set the volume level to quiet. This worked for me, but I don't know if this is possible with the Apple Music app or any other music app.

Hope this helps until we eventually get a fix.

I’ve submitted feedback to Apple (again). They need to bring this feature back. I use an aux cable in my car to connect my iPhone. It’s seriously annoying that I can’t listen to music, or an audiobook, without the navigation voice “shouting” at me. The option should be there, like it was before, to adjust the volume of the navigation voice accordingly. The best for me was to have to it set to “low” most of the time, so that I could hear it, but it didn’t massively interfere with the music I was listening to. Then, sometimes I liked to set the voice to “high” if I needed to concentrate on the road directions more. I really hate that Apple have taken this feature away from us.

I had been having this problem and I may have a solution that I stumbled on. When not driving, I opened up the maps app and went through the motions of setting a location to drive to. While sitting at home doing this I increased the volume on side buttons and it seems to be louder now. It did not match the volume I had it for music, but now it does. I hope this helps.

This needs to be fixed asap. They need to put this back which is no longer there

The volume is way to low - very dangerous and a safety issue. Why did they remove this option. My kids are now driving and they said the same thing that they cannot hear the talking. It is a whisper. The setting above is gone - no longer exist. This needs to be fixed as a number 1 priority in my opinion on the next software download. Apple do not wait - put it back...this is a safety issue....needs fixing asap

When research how to change the volume on the map app they still have open settings - tap on maps - select navigation & guidance - in navigation voice volume you can choose if want a loud or mute voice - that option no longer exist so no way of hearing the navigation voice. It is way too low. Especially if have others in car talking. This needs to be put back right away - do not wait apple please put it back. This is a safety issue that is affecting everyone

I was having the same issue. I couldn't really hear the navigation voice while playing the music. I did look for the feature to increase the volume on maps but like everyone else it wasn't there.

Adjusting the volume while in maps and music does seem to only increase the volume globally. However, I noticed that when I was just using maps and music separately, the volume was acceptable for the two apps independently. While only using Maps only I decided to max out the volume and I did the same on Music on my iPhone (of course using the main volume control in my car to keep the volume down). Now when I play both maps and music, the navigation volume over rides the music volume. Not sure if that was the solution but I'm good to go now. Good luck.

Hi after my earlier post I found this purely by accident. I can adjust my maps volume separate from music. If you use you car volume when the map voice is talking I could adjust the voice volume. Once voice stops it returns to what the music was set too, whilst the map volume remains at the knee set level. Hope this works for others. This was in Mitsubishi

This has been mentioned before, but this doesn’t work in my car (Nissan) via BT. The volume is global.

”SIRI, set volume to 50%”

will result in Media Volume and the global volume (including the side up/down controls) being set to 50%

”SIRI, set SIRI volume to 75%”

will result in SIRI’s voice being set to 75%, but this only seems to impact SIRI responses and not Map navigation.

You also get the current absolute volume settings from SIRI:

”SIRI, what is the current volume?” or “SIRI, what is the current SIRI volume?”

On some drives the music and nav volume are more relative to each other. I am still not 100% if this is due to my car’s speed sensitivity volume setting or the individual tracks loudness.

This shouldn’t be so messed up.

I'm just using my phone for Navigation to bluetooth earpieces. Not even connected to the car.

I CAN change volume in navigation, BUT a) I can't get there fast enough to hear maybe half the directions b) Next time Siri reads a direction the volume is dropped back to nearly ZERO so changing the volume IS NOT WORKING RIGHT. If I disconnect my bluetooth, then I believe the issue goes away, but I can't do that while driving and I shouldn't have too. This worked fine before iOS 15. I'm on 15.2 now. I see 15.3 is available.

So. Not an easy fix to explain. But here it is. Driving and I ran into the same problem. What you have to do is 1) get directions as normal 2) mute Siri 3) unmute Siri 4) tape the black box, top left, that display the directions to hear Siri speak. As she speaks adjust the volume. You should see it display volume as “Nav volume”. When she stops speaking the volume the returns to set the “main volume”. They are now separate adjustments and Siri can only be adjusted during the preview as she is speaking.

I should amend my “solution a bit” it’s not quite as contrived as I thought, but still a mess. It’s a bit confusing. Especially without documentation. Adjusting the volume while music plays adjusts the music. Adjust the volume while Siri is speaking directions will adjust the Navigation volume. So as SIRI is speaking quickly adjust the volume. You should see the “nav volume” title appear, but you only have as long as SIRI speaks to make the adjustment. As soon as SIRI stops, the volume will default to “system volume/ music volume”. Terrible I know, but there it is.

Doesn't work for me. I adjust it every time Siri speaks, like 20 times on the way home. I don't always get done before she stops, but often do. Once in awhile, the next time Siri speaks it's at full volume, but doesn't stay and, in fact, volume goes to near zero/minimum.

I also tried using Google maps for directions on the same route. They give audio direction as well. SAME THING happens there.

To change the volume in Waze:

Tap My Waze, then Settings

Tap Voice and Sound

Increase or decrease volume on a slider.

I am so annoyed about Apple doing away with a perfectly fine setting for adjusting volume of voice directions. The idiot, and TEAM of idiots who did this should be summarily fired! As should their supervisor!! By simply complaining about this amongst ourselves, we achieve nothing. By ceasing to use the Maps app, we at least make a statement.

Switching to Samsung Galaxy might turn a few heads as well. Apple gets away with shoddy work only because we let them.

Enough said!
