Link to iMovie in Photo Library in iOS 15

Since the update to ios 15 the link to iMovie, in the Photo Library, disappeared. While editing a video in Photo Library there was a link to iMovie in the right upper corner of the screen. Now it’s not possible anymore to open a portrait video while using Photo Library and edit it within iMovie to add for example music from the Music Library. Will this be back in the near future or will there be an other solution?

Please bring it back!

It’s the one function i use the most because it quick and simple.

i have LumaFusion, A HASSLE for small edits like trimming or adding music. I wish it was also present in photos app as an option.

On that note, why apple photos or pixelmator photo can edit without importing and LumaFusion can’t? unnecessarily bloats the ipad.

To clarify, iOS used to have an iMovie extension available when editing a clip in the Photos app. An extension allows a set of features from one app to be accessible from within another app. In this case, there was an iMovie extension available from within Photos that allowed users access to trim clips and add music but not the full feature set of iMovie.

I too am frustrated Apple removed access to iMovie features within Photos because most of the time I just want to trim and add music to movies without going through the process of creating a project in iMovie.

Photos still has extensions but they’re limited to still photo editing features not movie editing.

A practical alternatives is to use Apple’s Clip app which is set up to make quick changes to your clip and save it in your photos library or export it.

keep in mind, the iMovie extension really only allowed you to trim the clip and add music. None of the movie making features were available through the extension.

Its a bit annoying because Apple took away a feature that didn’t really provide good user experience and didn’t disclose it to users.

my advice, use Clips to make on the go video edits.

Clips it’s a waist of time!

I’ve tried it and it doesn’t work. Can’t export to the photos or the iMovie.

Besides the fact that you can arrange the pictures in any order you want (something you can actually do in iMovie) does nothing more then we could have done in the photo edit by only a few clicks.

I liked that I can add music right away to my videos and share them. Why waist my time exporting and importing and what not to achieve something so simple as adding a sound track to my video???

I’m thinking to switch to android , seriously!

i too used this every single day. a quick and effortless way to add music to video clips. i'm astounded this has happened; i lost all creativity for just the small things that keep me happy. is anyone aware of any other apps that allow you to add music to video clips in an effortless fashion like what was lost here? i tried clips and iMovie native app and it's just frustratingly waste of time.

i wish i would have known of this before upgrading to 15.x. such a simple feature yet it was my everything.

Dec 22, 2021 9:26 AM in response to relaxedstability

Don’t feel bad about the upgrade. I didn’t upgrade and the feature was not working. I called Apple support and they told me it’s not working because I didn’t upgrade. Well… after the upgrade the three … disappeared all together.

Im calling Apple as we speak.

Perhaps everyone here should do the same. If enough of us complain maybe they will fix it.

it is excruciating to have something that was working, Working quite well i must add, suddenly without explanation disappear. What an awful mistake to all the creative intent in the world What a foul move towards all that is good and proper. U prob gave that a person a raise. Or wait the CEO of youtube convinced you that to offer such ease of workflow was contributing to a more dangerous youtube. Do you know why censorship is going to Hi, i like yer profile, write me back if you want to start a conversation. xxxxxxx Hi, i like yer profile, write me back if you want to start a conversation. cxx xxxxxxx Hi, i like yer profile, write me back if you want to start a conversation. cxxxxx cxxx. Yeah its like that. Censorship is the truly dangerous thing happening on youtube not the logical ease of editing video through photo app options extension. I recommend ending the employees responsible for this downgrades career with apple. Some one needs to be held accountable for all the madness of being unablen to perform something u have done thinking its your fault like im off my game how did i do that the countless angry hours looking it up. The missing imovie edit option in photos its a headaches to find the correct words The waste of time writing this. The resounding Lose/lose/lose The evil alphabet wins but they really really need a replacement CEO at youtube. Before she single handedly destroys all freedom of expression not made for kids. No one goes to youtube to be in a safe

place

not even the children.

Youtibe is being censored and neutered to be a safe plAce for chidren. Evil is Google. More now than ever.

wasted untold-time hunting down a 2nd iphone to purchase that was still on ios14, presuming would use solely for this feature (video-editing) alone. the "..." is indeed still present in the Photos app - great! continue to setup phone and then go to download iMovie from the app store. sure enough, a popup prompt states "This application requires ios15 or later" - and will not allow you to install on ios14. i give up
