iPhone 13 won't unlock

My phone will not allow me to unlock it. The Face ID isn't working, the keypad won't even come up to allow me to put in my password. I can't even swipe up to unlock the screen. Anyone else have this problem? I need help!!!

Hi everyone, I just received my new iPhone 13 pro last night. I started setting it up and then I got asked to update the phone to the latest iOS. After I updated it, I started encountering the exact problem where my screen became unresponsive. I tried to swipe up to unlock it, but the screen would not respond to any form of touch. I tried to do the “hard reset” by pressing on the up volume, then the down volume, and then holding the side button until the apple logo appears, and yet, the problem still persists. Any alternative solutions?

Thanks!

Glad to help!

That is  how you do a “hard reset”. See below:

Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
    • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

Thank you Deggie! My 13 Pro started having a weird screen malfunction, I could hit the side button and the screen would turn on/off, but the graphics were so glitched, fuzzy, and moving strangely - I certainly could not swipe to unlock and face recognition was not working, therefore "swiping" to turn off my phone the old fashioned way was not working.

I didn't even know this was a possibility - your suggestion of (somewhat quickly/normal speed) pressing the volume up button, releasing, then the volume down button, releasing, then pressing and holding the side lock button did force my iPhone to restart!

Thankfully the screen is working normally (for now) let's hope it stays that way - there shouldn't be anything wrong with the phone given it's brand new - annoying!

The workaround that works for me is to pull down the screen. It then shows you some of the last opened or perhaps apps that are still open. Select one of them and then pull it down to go to the home page. Weird and I hate it but that’s the only thing that’s working.

Unable to swipe up to bring the faceId screen displayed.
