IOS 15 - Mail being marked as read before being opened

I am having the same issue. I have 3 email accounts. The problem is only with optonline. I called apple three times and was told to delete the email account then add it back. It fixes the problem for half a day then reverts back. All told me to do the same thing. So this is the fix? Ridiculous! Apple has no answer or fix. I am beyond frustrated.

There must be a compatibility issue between Optimum and the latest iOS update. The email program on my MacBook is working fine, I’m only having a problem on my iPhone with Optimum. I’ll be curious to see if I have the same problem on my new iPhone 13 pro.

I agree. My optonline email is working on my laptop not iphone after the update. I am deleting and adding my account multiple times a day. I am so frustrated I may have to ditch the optonline email. Apple support just says there’s nothing they can do just wait for another update.

I’m having the same problem after upgrading to a new phone and 15.0.1. I keep updating hoping that that will solve the issue but to no avail. I’m currently at 15.2.

This is happening to only one of my accounts address. It’s a .net account. I added it to my mail in settings and I access it by clicking on the mail icon on my iPhone. I open my mail from the Home Screen.

it's definitely not closed based on what I know. I've called Apple numerous times about this, I got a 13 pro, updated to 15.2, and still have all incoming email (.net account) marking as "read" and some disappear before my very eyes! I also noticed that my .net email folders are all gone! Not sure if that's related, but very frustrating. As of early this week, I was told they "are working on it"

This has been happening to me since 15.1 update. There are no answers other than "they're working on it" I heard it would be fixed with 15.2, which as we all know did not fix it. I am constantly deleting and adding new email. It is beyond frustrating and there is no end in sight.

Why do they keep marking this solved? It definitely is not! I have to delete and add my account daily now for it to work for at least a few hours.

I have spoken to Optimum and they have no answer and just say it is not them and can't help.

I've spoken to Apple many times, and I even have an engineering "handler." No one has ever said that it's a problem on Optimum's end, and their engineering department has been working on it since at least November 2021.

This is a big problem for Apple. Krissy-have you escalated your issue to engineering yet? They will assign someone to you, and all you need to do is send an email to see if there are any updates. I always get a response within a day, but still no fix available.

I have. In the beginning I was told to do a factory reset. Wipe out everything and had to add apps back one at a time and guess what happened. Not a thing. After every update I’m told it could fix it. 3 updates later no fix.

I wiped my 11 pro, reinstalled everything, got a brand new 13 pro, I believe I’ve done 4 updates, including one yesterday. My email still come in marked as read, I can’t flag any email, and about a third of them DELETE before I’ve read them! I’m at my wit’s end.

There was another IOS update last night. It made it worse if that is even possible. After the update I deleted my email account turned off my phone, turned it back on, added back my email. I had 16 new messages, as soon as I started scrolling they were all immediately marked as read.

Absurd.

It appears that Apple is fobbing people off with fixing this problem since it has been nearly 5 months since first reported and the 'Solved' comment is not justified, based on the 9 pages of customer feedback. I have IOS 15.1 and my mail is still appearing as read when it is not. This is a mail account set up through the iPhone settings using IMAP. It's an important email account that's on both my & my partner's phone but NEITHER OF US are reading these emails but they are appearing as read.

Why isn't there a simple option to leave all emails as unread until manually changing to read?

Come on Apple, with so mant coders and so many users worldwide surely that's not somthing that doesn't take 5 months to fix!!!

About a month ago, I accidentally marked all of my email as “read” when I was on the optimum website, and the marking of my email as “unread” stopped for a while. It’s not a solution, but was a short term fix for me. My bigger problem is having my email delete before I’ve even opened them!

The same thing is happening to me. It is so frustrating. I don't even read the email and it's being marked as unread. I so far have only noticed it with AOL through the ios apple mail app.
