IOS 15 - Mail being marked as read before being opened

Please do. You are not helpful at all. As all of us pointed here, it started to happen as soon as we updated to iOS 15. In my case it’s an iPhone 12. Maybe all of us have the same device, in any case it’s still an issue Apple has to fix. So please, again, let’s focus on the issue and stop wasting our time with unrelated random comments.

When this happens to me it, I can watch the mail get marked as read. Two use cases, I open the mail app and the inbox loads, mail is refreshed and the first message in the inbox is marked as read while I watch. Second, I read a message and navigate back with the upper left arrow to the inbox and when the inbox loads, the first message is marked as read.

No George, I’m not reading email on another device. As pointed out by me and other users this is a behaviour that started happening after iOS15 upgrade on my iPhone 12 Pro. Please look into it, it’s a bug and a very annoying one as I missed already several work emails due to it. Why so much resistance in marking this as unresolved and passing it to your R&D team? I’m puzzled.

NOT SOLVED!!! Same here! First thought someone hacked my mailbox then realized it happens to 6 different email accounts - gmail, yahoo, business, and another gmail. Changed all my passwords just in case - still happening. iOS 15.0.1 on iPhone 13 Pro. Only happens when in unread mailbox and you refresh - it keeps marking top email as read so if you keep refreshing it will keep marking it unread until… randomly stoped at email from 4 days ago 🤷‍♂️ So confused and I need to go through all of my emails from past month to make sure I didn’t miss anything important.

Same is happening to me. Random emails are being marked as read without me reading them....this is ruining my business right now. SERIOUS ISSUE FOR SURE!!! I was wondering if others were noticing this. Awful!!! I am using an iphone 12 mini.

This isn’t solved, not even in 15.0.2. This was happening on my 12 Pro and now my 13 Pro.

I hope you reported this issue instead of just saying “update to the latest version”; this is seriously some lazy customer support.

I have the same use case as OP and it’s really annoying to have emails disappear from my unread folder.

Also Updated to 15.0.2 not fixed. Hey support - please reopen this issue and don’t close it unless your customers confirm it’s fixed. THIS IS NOT FIXED. email on my phone is useless - thanks to your “closed” thread so no one pays attention to this issue anymore… I apparently missed VERY VERY IMPORTANT business related email a few weeks ago before realizing this issue is happening and now my business is getting penalized because I missed to respond, and deadline… WTF. Simply angry at myself and apple for not listening to us. PLEASE REOPEN THIS ISSUE AND PROVIDE VALID AND VERIFIED FIX! Please.

This is happening to me as well. This will happen even when I mark the message as unread. If I read/select another e-Mail (not opening another after closing or deleting it) it will mark others as read.

I am having the same issue, with in the mail app. The first email listed always gets “read” without ever being opened. And if I refresh the page then it removes the read message and then “reads” the next most recent email without any of these emails actually being opened.

Still an issue on iOS 15.0.2

• 6 email accounts, mostly gmail, one yahoo
• Default view is Unread
• Emails not open on any other computer
• I can watch them all load, and right before my eyes the top one normally marks itself as read
• I’m almost always in low power mode
• I routinely quit apps from the multitask screen (someone mentioned that), but the emails mark themselves as read while the app is open

This should not be marked resolved when literally no resolution was given besides to try updating the software.

This is unfortunately why I usually wait several months for major upgrades, because I don’t have the patience to be a beta tester.

• I explained in a previous message why the thread was marked as solved. That is completely up to the user who posted the first message in the thread.
• It won’t do you any harm to NOT routinely quit apps from the multitasking screen as a test, and by not quitting apps you will make your phone faster and improve battery life, as explained in my earlier post on the subject.

Apple! I had iPhones since the first iPhone. Never stressed me a bug like this before. Have my iPhone 13 Pro since day 1 with preinstalled iOS 15. Update to 15.0.2 didn‘t solved it. FIX THIS FAST, PLEASE!

I'm experiencing the same issue on my iMac Desktop, after installing OS Monterey 12.0.1, all my flagged emails disappeared from my Gmail "Flagged" box. They still appear in "All Mail"; however, when i re-flagged them, they still do not show up in Flagged Mail.

I have an iPhone 12 Pro I updated to 15.1 and now all my emails are marked read even old emails from a year ago. I open up the email icon and within seconds the blue dots start to disappear like the email was read. My email server is optimum. Never ever ever had this problem before until I updated the phone!!!!! This is crazy
