How can I get rid of the small keyboard symbol in iMessage app on iPad?

People like Michael are VOLUNTEERING their time to come here and try to help their fellow users. They do not work for Apple.

In addition, he is correct in that, beyond the community specialists and the hosts/moderators everyone else here is also just a user like you….and as such have ZERO ability to really fix anything or change anything. All they can do is offer their assistance. (And honestly, the community specialists just offer answers to questions that have gone unanswered and the hosts simply work to keep posts within the confines of the rules and terms of service, none of them are programmers and none of them can actively alter anything in the operating systems of the devices.)

If anyone does not like a new feature of the operating system then the best thing to do to bring those thoughts to Apple is to fill out the feedback form. Those are logged and read and may have some impact upon how Apple does things in the future.

I have filled out a few of those forms and likely will fill out more as I explore iOS15 further. I invite everyone to do the same.

For years I’ve used Google Docs for editing using the Comments function without a problem, yet this week, when I opened Docs, that blasted little symbol was in the bottom righthand corner. Every time I needed to write a comment, the ‘send’ function was covered up by the keyboard symbol, and I had to manually move the symbol out of the way to actually post my comment…which slowed my work down immensely.

Thanks for asking this as it was annoying for me too. I could not respond to any discussions on Reddit as you could not hit the “send” button as the keyboard icon was covering it and it couldn’t be moved. Very irritating.

Your answer is incorrect sir. That annoying icon can in fact be removed from the screen by deselecting “shortcuts” in the keyboard settings.

Apple - not only should you make issues like this easier to discover and correct but you should insure that your “community specialists” know what they are talking about.

Some users, like me, constantly use keyboard shortcuts and the procedural shortcuts features.

I use both of these a lot in these Apple Support Community.

So, disable-ing keyboard and procedural shortcius is NOT an option for me, nor a “real” fix OR solution to this issue.

The fact is, if you have to disable one feature to fix another feature of an OS, this is NOT a real fix or solution, at all!

In reality, that small rectangle really cannot be removed without disabling some other important feature that maybe needed by other users.

Not really a “fix”, but a “kludgey” work-around.

Thank you! I was certain that I had turned this off at one point and unchecking the Shortcuts toggle by itself did not do the trick. Once I also disabled Predictive, the keyboard icon disappeared.

This was a deal breaker as to whether I would continue to use my iPad Pro or let it just gather dust.

I rarely use the dictation feature on my iPad and I am not sure what “Shortcuts” are at risk, but I followed the suggestions to disable Shortcuts and the annoying box went away. When using the Signal App, the rectangle was appearing over the input field for message text - thus making it impossible to see if you had a typo before sending. Since the upgrade I was inserting extra lines in order to move the text up…which of course was filling the text messages with needless characters to accommodate the control commands and spaces.

I think my solution moving forward is to wait 90 days or longer before installing “helpful” (ha) Apple IOS updates so the special features like this one can be corrected.

One of the latest instrumentation features allows the left turn signal to always be activated unless you are intentionally making a right turn and activate the right signal. Some drivers may not like this feature but those driving who find it difficult to activate the signal for left turns have requested the feature. If you would like to return to the ability to drive without your left turn signal activated, we need thousands of GM owners to contact us to complain about this problem we are already aware of. When this feature was installed we had a disgruntled engineer who initiated the design modification without checking for unintended consequences. Thank you for being a loyal GM customer.”

But this is not a technical support problem. The device is functioning as designed. Apple Support can't change that.

Thank you so much Darklingwaterfae! All of a sudden the keyboard icon appeared right over the "forward" function of e-mail on my iPad. Thanks to you I didn't spend long at all wrestling with this. Someone(s) seem to be asleep at the wheel at Apple

Yes Apple are annoying by introducing new clever but horribly useless features, then not allowing the user to turn them off after two weeks of forced trial (which would allow Apple to monitor how popular they are).

There is no stress except what the hidden hand are delivering to us on purpose to stress us out. There is no need to worry about ANY of the major stories running in the newspapers because they are all misrepresented at the deepest levels. A great way to look behind the veil is to listen to either Mark Passio at WOEIH or ProbablyAlexandra on Odysee.com

Only the original poster can mark a post as "solved". And it can't be removed. If you are concerned that your question is not getting the attention it requires because the thread is marked solved, I'd suggest starting a new thread.
