Unable to install iPadOS 15.0.1 on iPad pro 10.5 (256 gb)

Hi,

I am unable to install iPadOS 15.0.1 on iPad pro 10.5

When 15.0.01 has been downloaded and the preparing has been finalized, I then click “Install” and then “Install now”. Then the “little whell” starts to turn and then nothing happens except that the wheel keeps turning.

After two hours I pressed the On buttun and the home button at the same time in order to regain access to the iPad.

I have tried to reset my iPad completly (Install as new iPad) and tried installing iPadOS 15.0.1 again but I get the same problem again.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to solve this?

Assuming you're trying to update your device wirelessly (via wifi), see this suppport article:--> If your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch won’t update

If the issue persists, try to update it via computer:

Learn how to update your device manually if you're using a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or if you're using a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier or a Windows PC.

If you still get no help, contact Apple Support directly, using this link:--> Get Support

OK, updating via macOS Big Sur (using the Finder) and a lightning cable results in the 5.4GB IPSW file downloading, followed by the same "Error 4000" message that you noted for iTunes update.

As per your solution, hold down the home button and power button for more than 30 seconds; you will see TWO white "apples" appear, followed by a graphic of a cable plugged into your iPad. Let the buttons go, and choose "UPGRADE".

After a successful upgrade, I had to wait another 20 minutes for "attempting data recovery" to complete. This also was successful.

Thanks very much for your helpful info; I would suggest to most users that they await a fix from Apple (probably a 15.1 update).

nobody said "lots or many" so why mention it?

no it doesn't have anything to do with rushing the update server. the package will be downloaded on Mac with no problems.

and all my iPhones have worked with no problem.

server problems are maybe at the same day but in the past it didn't happened on the next day (aside form a bug in the build himself)

so its clear that some iPads seems to have the problem. and the time everyone is updating is not imported.

maybe someone will be on holidays and want to install the last security updates?

I have had this happen.

All of my family, including me, have Apple devices.

In total 10 devices.

I am the “Apple expert” for my entire family.

I had recently updated Apple devices to 14.8 ( before iPadOS 15 was made officially available ) successfully, but two devices just were just being stubborn on the same day.

I didn't do theupdate right away, for these devices, as I am always FULLY aware of a percentage of world wide users who just twitch rush to download every single major and minor upgrade/update that Apple puts out!

I had to use iTunes on my Mac for all of these devices to upgrade/update them all!

I gave up on the last two that were giving me a lot of issues and I waited a day, or so, to update the last two devices and everything went fine.

Have NO clue what had happen, but I spent hours trying to get those last two devices ( late into the evening I was updating all these other iOS/iPadOS devices ), I just gave up on that day with the two last devices., but a day, or so, later, the update to those devices went fine without any glitch.

So, you tell me what happened there.

The updates 15.0.1 has been successfully installed on my iPad mini 5 but failed on my iPad Pro 9.7 (1st generation). Both had been running 15.0. I think it is likely that the updates do not work smoothly on old iPad. Waiting for a new release might be the best option. Although someone posted solutions but for a minor update like this, it is not worthwhile.

I dont know, what happened to iPadOS 15.0.1, but all previous updates were working without any issues, but that one got completely stuck and in Settings > General > iPad-Storage I could see, that the Update-Package was only 700MB in size. After fiddling with the WiFi-Update for over some hours I did the upddate finally via deleting the update from storage plus a restart of the device by holding power+home button. Then I connected the iPad via USB-connection to my MacBook and here I did the backup plus the update without any issues.

Apple should really improve the pre-update checks and all update status messages instead just showing an infinite single text like "Checking Update package" or "Installing" even if the process got stuck already some hours ago.

The issues is mentioned everywhere on the internet and happens mostly on ipad pro 10.5 cellular and older Ipad models. It has nothing todo with over crowded download servers.

People are walking in the local apple store with similar issues here. Its a bug in the update somehow. Apple has to resolve this. The solution is using the Apple Configurator 2 App on a apple machine and update the ipad. Itunes or Finder produce a 4000 error and fail also on updating.

Solution found and problem solved !!!

I talked to Apple support for 50 minutes.

Solution:

While the iPad is connected to iTunes, put the iPad into Recovery Mode.

iPad with Home button: Hold down the On button and the Home button at the same time. Note that you have to do this for a very, very Long time. You must keep doing this even thou the Apple icon appears.

iPad without Home button: Hold down the On button and the volume up button at the same time.

You know when you are done holding when iTunes displays a message. Something like: this iPad may have a problem.

You then have two options “Recovery” and “Upgrade”.

WARNING: It said that IF you choose Upgrade and it does not work, it will automatically go to Recovery.

I chose Upgrade and it took appr. 20 minutes and now everything is ok. I now have iPadOS 15.0.1

Once again, thank you everyone who helped me.

15 Update worked on my iphone without any issues. It downloaded on my older ipad 5th gen. But failed to then install. I offloaded some apps I rarely use to ensure enough storage space for the update. After attempting to install the downloaded update multiple times, I booted down the ipad & restarted it. It quickly gave me a msg to install new updates. Which it did for about 20 min using 5GHz connection. Apple icon appeared with bar underneath showing the progression on two occasions during install. It was successful! The update size is 0.8GB. Not sure abt the glitch, but i did restart my ipad to get the downloaded update to install. Hope this info helps someone else.

I am having the same issue - looking at various online reports it appears Apple forgot it had sold the iPad Pro - the ios 15.0.1 update has a bug with the iPad Pro - it should be supported.

This issue is a first with all my various Apple products - I can only magine Apple have an issue with preparing and completing proper testing across its product estate - i look forward to ios v15.0.2.0.0.1

I’ve had the same issue. iOS15 updated perfectly on mine, but the new 15.0.1 completely crashed my iPad mid-update to the point were even my buttons didn’t work!

If you have iTunes on Mac or PC, set your iPad to recovery mode (back up everything to your iCloud before you do this, just to be safe!) there’s tons of info available on how to do that and once you connect your iPad via cable to your PC, you can manually update your iPad that way.

Please note that this was a last resort solution after trying everything else, but for me it worked amazing and now my iPad is fully updated!

I don’t have a Mac (need/want one) - so, Configurator is not an option.

Apple OS is strictly controlled (unlike other OS options) - so it should be easier to apply Development and Fixes across the Apple estate without breaking it - sloppy development and testing. We can all expect to see os15.0.2 soon, quickly followed by os15.0.3 - as Apple get a grip on their OS

Same issue here. I tried everything when updating over WiFi proved impossible. I connected to iTunes on my laptop (Windows 10), and got a “disk full” error message. I did a complete reset to factory settings and got a “device not found” error message. I spent over an hour chatting and speaking to Support, and the best the rep could offer was to suggest I visit my local Apple Store. Clearly, they’re not reading these boards, or others where the same issues are being reported. My gut says 15.0.1 is causing some sort of hardware compatibility issues for Pro users. I guess we’ll just have to wait for a new update to be pushed and hope for the best.
