Unable to install iPadOS 15.0.1 on iPad pro 10.5 (256 gb)

Hi,

I am unable to install iPadOS 15.0.1 on iPad pro 10.5

When 15.0.01 has been downloaded and the preparing has been finalized, I then click “Install” and then “Install now”. Then the “little whell” starts to turn and then nothing happens except that the wheel keeps turning.

After two hours I pressed the On buttun and the home button at the same time in order to regain access to the iPad.

I have tried to reset my iPad completly (Install as new iPad) and tried installing iPadOS 15.0.1 again but I get the same problem again.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to solve this?

Assuming you're trying to update your device wirelessly (via wifi), see this suppport article:--> If your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch won’t update

If the issue persists, try to update it via computer:

Learn how to update your device manually if you're using a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or if you're using a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier or a Windows PC.

If you still get no help, contact Apple Support directly, using this link:--> Get Support

I have the same problem installing IOS 15.0.1 on my iPad Pro 10.5. for a whole week. I downloaded the update to my iPad, and tried everything including : hard reset, updated through I tune, delete the update, even reset all setting…etc but iPad would not install the update. The message on my PC display “unknown error occurred (0xE8000084).” Finally, out of Curiosity, I tried the following steps: 1) reset all setting, 2) then update ISO 15.0.1 immediately from my PC through iTunes and it worked! The trick is, after you do the reset all setting, don’t download this update 15.0.1 to your iPad, Let your PC update it this way on its own. So happy! As I would not want to ease everything on my iPad for this update as a finally solution.

Final solution provided by Apple support. I wrote this earliere. It also works for 15.0.2

Solution found and problem solved !!!

I talked to Apple support for 50 minutes.

Solution:

While the iPad is connected to iTunes, put the iPad into Recovery Mode.

iPad with Home button: Hold down the On button and the Home button at the same time. Note that you have to do this for a very, very Long time. You must keep doing this even thou the Apple icon appears.

iPad without Home button: Hold down the On button and the volume up button at the same time.

You know when you are done holding when iTunes displays a message. Something like: this iPad may have a problem.

You then have two options “Recovery” and “Upgrade”.

WARNING: It said that IF you choose Upgrade and it does not work, it will automatically go to Recovery.

I chose Upgrade and it took appr. 20 minutes and now everything is ok. I now have iPadOS 15.0.1

Once again, thank you everyone who helped me.

It's worked for many so it's at least partially correct for some devices. It's a major hassle getting into recovery mode while it's connected to iTunes. You have to seriously hold the buttons for a LONG time and then let the computer install drivers (windows). It took another 30 minutes to update but after had 15.0.1 installed.

With the Apple Configurator 2 method it works much faster and no recovery mode needed. But you need a apple machine for this.

Finder also does not work in many cases.

You are advising people the following: "For everyone reading, this answer is useless. Look for the proper answer in another topic that describes putting your device in recovery mode and updating through iTunes"

I am responding to that advice as it is incorrect. Itunes also works for some but not for all. Or you did you mean something else?

What i dont understand is why Apple is messing up like this and is not capable of fixing this issue after one update (15.0.1) Are they blind? Not reading the complaints everywhere on the internet? Where is Apple support? Not a single reply here from them. A bit shamefull isn't it?

The SIM card thing is the only thing that worked for me too. I have a iPad WiFi + cellular with no SIM card in the slot. Deleted the downloaded but not installed 15.0.2, ejected the sim holder, insert a nano sim from an old iPhone 6s, toggled on cellular, downloaded the new update, installed no problems. Removed the old SIM card. Hassle but it worked. No more “verifying update”.

I have the 9.7" iPad Pro cellular model which always has issues updating beta and normal releases. The update downloads ok, goes through the preparing bit and then starts installing, installing, installing..... and never ends. It seems to be losing the wifi connection as sometimes it displays the "unable to check for update" error. I don't usually have a sim card in it but shutting down and installing a sim card, rebooting and starting the update again ALWAYS works. So if you're having issues updating a cellular iPad and don't have a sim card in it, try putting a sim card in and restarting the update.

Hope this helps someone, cheers H.

Thank you so much. I’d tried the Apple recommended steps of deleting the update, trying again, same issue when 15.0.2 dropped too. Tried two different Macs but both had a unknown 4000 error message during the update after finishing the back up. But your method of doing it recovery mode has worked a treat. Hopefully the hair I was ripping out grows back.
