The built-in storage space display refuses to detect how much space is being used on my iPhone. It consistently says that 0 KB of space is being used, when the real number is obviously much higher. It won't recognize certain apps as having Documents & Data, even though some of them have several GB. Is there any way to reset this and get it to display an accurate number?

i thought i was the only one this was happening to!! the same thing happens on my XR. i have 128 gb, but it says i have 135.8 gb available. i reallly don’t want to have to wipe everything off my phone just to fix this though, because my phone works perfectly fine besides that.
People look at storage for a variety of reasons. And I have the latest version. This is still an issue. You are suggesting that everyone call Apple and bother the employees there when the thing that really needs to happen is Apple implementing a built-in bug reporting feature within the phone, itself, so that their programmers are alerted on these issues and not regular customer service reps & tech support when they're usually reading a script and aren't the actual programmers. All they end up doing is filing a report that we should be able to do in seconds instead of spending half the day on a phone call. Also, these forums are supposed to serve that purpose.

And I'll say this. You have absolute no evidence that the vast majority of users have had this solved by iOS 15.1 and putting it in shouty CAPITALS doesn’t make it so. Daily, we see no new posts because people have read these posts, including mine, and know it isn’t solved for many of us even with a device reboot and a full backup & restore cycle.
And I’ll say again, you should not be spreading false information on a user forum whether or not Apple participates.
I can’t see you and I don’t know you. To be clear, I’ve retired early because I sold my share of my communications business to a multi-billion dollar business in Santa Barbara.
I was seen as the “go to guy” globally in the testing and conformance of new devices years before they were even released. I was testing 50% of global LTE and 5G devices before they were even called that, just as people were crawling out of 3G.
My whole business and career, and wealth, was based around delivery and facts, not being a “go to guy”.

Same issue with my iPhone 11 Pro. Force restart did not work.
Force restart is the first thing I tried… does not help in this case.
Make a backup, restore your phone to factory default and set it up as a new phone and not from the backup. This should fix any
Same. I am on a iPhone 13 pro max 128 gb iOS 15.0.1.
Same issue shows Zero KB OF 128 GB used. Clearly more storage used. I’m on a 12 pro max
I restored from a backup and it still didn’t fix it :( needs to be patched
Please fix it up. It's crazy to watch it. I don't want to delete my whole phone because of that. My phone works perfectly besides of this.
The new update: iOS 15.02 does not address this issue unfortunately.

I have been experiencing the same issue on my iPhone 8 since updating to iOS 15.0.1. Was hoping that 15.0.2 would fix the issue, but just installed that update and no such luck.
