Atom.io installation

Every time I click the Atom installer, I get an error message. "You can’t open the application “Atom” because the Classic environment is no longer supported." I have Catalina 10.15.7. I need this so I can learn Python for a course I'm taking. I've tried SublimeText with similar error message.

Any tips?

Sublime Text 4 works just fine in macOS Mojave, and Big Sur. Purposely, I have no Macs with Catalina installed. If you install the optional Anaconda IDE package into sublime text 4, it can syntax check your Python code as you enter it.

As for Atom, version 1.58.0 or later should install correctly on Catalina or Big Sur, provided you are following the proper steps. I have been using Sublime Text for years in Python development, so the Atom editor never was a consideration.
