Iphone 13 pro overheating

I barely used my new iphone which I got last Monday night 2 nights ago. I noticed overheating while I was transferring files from my old phone and while it is connected with charger. It doesn’t have protective film nor casing yet so I don’t use it at all. And now, that I’m using it for browsing AT&T website for an hour, I found it overheating again.. No youtube or other apps were used. And still without protective case.

So I just got off with Apple support and this helped me out. They had me go to general and then background app refresh and turn it all off. Lots of social media apps run in the background while you’re not using the phone. I surprisingly had over 24 hours of apps in the background. Also go to your battery section scroll down to battery usage by app and click the show activity tab. That’s where you can see how many apps still run in your background causing the phone to overheat. My top 5 like I stated earlier were running for more than 24 hours. Once I turned off all the background app refresh it’s been working fine so far, I’ll update if it changes but usually by now I would start feeling some heat. Also don’t just click background app refresh off. You have to actually click the tabs of each app to turn them off. Cause even though I had most of them off, some were on even when the whole section was tabbed off at the top

Actually Bluetooth is a powerhog and uses lots of energy. As soon as I turned mine off the phone started cooling down.

Actually not true at all. The Bluetooth radio in your iPhone is one the lowest consumers of power in the device.

Yeah I’m using my airpods most of the time so my bluetooth is always on. I’m just so sad that I thought I made an upgrade. Using 4G for my net, turning off background app refresh which is helpful, and now you are suggesting to turn off my bluetooth. This is stressing me out and now my health battery is on 97% given that its is only less than 6mos old phone. My iphone 11 promax is better than this :(

Already have and they just want me to reset my phone which I will loose important items and that’s not okay. Other wise they can’t seem to find problems so it’s something with software because before the last 2 updates it wasn’t overheating and getting so hot. So Apple needs to address the updates and what they have added that’s causing the cpu/ gpu to run so hot.

Thank you.

Your constructive response has informed about:

  • the target audience
  • Other effective ways of targeting Apple in support which no one from Apple suggested.
  • the structure of how EX works in this forum, when frustrated with Apple when one has paid a service with them and yet they shrug they shoulder .. you have no idea how much time I have wasted (I travel and battery issues & update requirements to remain safe in an open environment is a real concern)

A big thank you, earnestly.

It’s like a total disappointment I have iPhone 13 Pro which is like a iron box and also a big factory you name it , I have been using this phone for past 8. Months and after calling for 10 min it’s starts heating and I can’t put it on my ears, while recording videos after 5 min starts heating and and after 15 min it’s shut down the camera automatically

I agree 100%. I even use 3G because it is still fast and on low data mode. It is even safer than 4G. I will never use 5G again. Unfortunately, Apple sent an update with iOS 16.1 and one of the terms was that it included "modifications to improve connectivity to the cellular network carrier". I thought that might improve speed or coverage. Little did I know that my phone would start heating up and radiating micro waves while consuming heavy amounts of battery power! I will never buy a 5G phone again. I am downgrading to a 4G only device as soon as I can. But be careful from refurbished.

Omg, now I know I’m not crazy. I’ve been having the same issues with my IPhone 13 Pro. I do a lot of driving (with use of phone) for my job, therefore, I am exposed to the elements quite a bit. It could be warm or cold outside and my phone still manages to overheat. Doesn’t matter whether it’s plugged into the car charger, home charger, or no charger at all. It’s quite irritating, because it got so hot, that one time my phone was sitting on my bare skin in the car… and had I left it on longer, I’m sure I would’ve gotten burned. Unfortunately, my phone is out of the 1 year warranty… just shy of a few days and after months of procrastinating to get it fixed, it is imperative to do so at this point. This phone is a big investment and is used every day, but I shouldn’t have to fear it blowing up on me at any given moment or malfunctioning when I need it most. When it over heats, it glitches and freezes too! So, I guess it’s already malfunctioned quite a few times. I only use Apple USB-C charging chords. The original chord that came with the phone and a chord I purchased from the Apple store. So I’m not sure why it’s overheating like this. It’s effecting my sense of safety and money at this point. No Bueno.
