Safari 15 keeps logging me out of several sites every week or so

I've increased "remove history items" to 1 month - no luck

I've disabled all extensions - no luck

Still there are some sites which keep me logged in, but google.com, youtube.com, facebook.com, ebay.com - they are all throwing me out every week.

Other browsers doesn't do that.

Safari 14 didn't do that.

Am I alone with this porblem?

For others that are experiencing this issue -- can you confirm if the following steps reliably reproduce the issue for you?

  1. Open Safari and login to Gmail
  2. Open Safari Dev Tools (option + command + i)
  3. Reload the page (command + r)
    1. Result: you should still be logged in to Gmail at this point
  4. Open a new tab (command + t)
    1. Result: you should now mysteriously be logged out of your google account in the original tab

Still happening in 12.2/Safari 15.3. And each time, I have to use my 2FA to login, and each time the website I log into then sends me an email announcing that I am logging in to the service "for the first time from a new device."

I will say that this is only happening for me on Apple silicon (MacBook Air M1) and not on my older Macbook Pro. It is unbelievably annoying and disruptive to actual work.

I'm personally on an intel mac and have had this problem frequently enough to switch browsers.

The point about the web console is interesting. I've noticed it in plain safari with a web console open in safari technology preview.

Another interesting fact is when I get logged out of google and log in again, I get a security email from google as if I just logged in from a new browser/computer/location that it doesn't recognize.

This problem started affecting me a week ago or so. It’s been driving me up the wall!

It only seems to affect tech giant sites: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn. On many smaller websites, my login sessions continue to work after those big sites are struck by another wave of amnesia, which has happened to me at least four times today.

All the tech giants appear to use device-based login sessions that Safari 15 intermittently breaks. In Twitter’s session management tool, I can see a litany of “devices” but they are all the same MacBook Pro I am typing on now.

Opening the Web Inspector seems to cause it, but not immediately. An indeterminate amount of time must elapse before it occurs.

I’m on an M1 MacBook Pro running Monterey. I am not using the Private Relay beta, and I have disabled nearly all of Apple’s privacy-protecting measures.

It’s been a while since I went spelunking into macOS’s logs. Has anybody done this and seen any Safari-related error messages?

October? Its crazy to know it was that long. I'm lucky I haven't experienced it before as I've just updated my Macbook to Monterey last week. I'm definitely moving to Brave now, getting logged out from everywhere several times per day is more than annoying. The only thing I'll miss is Keychain but I guess I could sync it manually to Brave.

I just upgraded to Safari 15.4 and pulled up the Web Inspector to look at a few web pages. Now I wait for the logout bomb to go off. I’ve never been able to pinpoint exactly when it happens or if there is a specific tool in the Web Inspector that sets it off. It always seems to be delayed a little, however.

Jen Simmons on Twitter replied and encouraged me to file an issue with a sysdiagnose attachment.

Have any of you done that yet? I will do this as soon as the logout bomb detonates again.

Waiting for new update from Apple and install them right away to see if they have fixed the issue with Safari but nope. Even the 15.4 update still have this issue. It’s insane, I loved using Safari because of sync with other devices and keychain but seriously Apple 6 months and you cannot resolve this? Shame

You left me no option then to switch browser as I am starting to feel, this will not be fixed soon. I have numerous sent numerous complaints from feedback aap and called Apple couple of times on this and no good outcome.

I had to troubleshoot something in Safari a couple of weeks ago, so I trepidatiously enabled the Developer Tools again. Prior to doing that, however, I executed “defaults delete com.apple.Safari” to reset my Safari settings.

Amazingly, the last couple of weeks have been logout-free ever since. I’ve kept the Developer Tools enabled and have been using them frequently.

But I really don’t believe the problem is gone. Something weird causes it, and somehow I’m miraculously sidestepping it like a clairvoyant freak walking through a minefield.
