Calendar app changes time for event to four hours earlier

Whenever I edit an all-day event to make it for a specific time, after I save that event, the app changes the time to four hours earlier. So if I edit an all-day event and make the start time 12pm, after I save it, the app changes the start time to 8am. I have the correct time zone set and and Time Zone Override is enabled but it keeps happening on both my iPhone and iPad.

Hi- this exact thing is happening to me with my Apple calendar. My daughter said it’s happening to her as well in her iPhone/Apple calendar. This seems to be an issue on the Apple side. Please advise if you can log a defect with your Apple product team.

Hi- this exact problem occurs for me. This isn’t an issue with time zones because all my other events are correct. The problem occurs in a specific situation: if i save an event as ‘all day’ and then come in later to update the time to a specific time, the calendar saves it as 4 hours earlier. If i go back in and edit it again, it saves fine. Thus, this error only occurs when editing an all day event to a specific time. It’s happening to others with iPhones on the Apple calendar as well.

OMG I read the whole thread. Gmail calendar causes this.

One of the solutions listed in this thread:

  • Go to your Apple Calendar - at the very bottom click Calendar and create NEW iCloud calendar that you can use instead of the Gmail calendar.
  • Make the appointment for ALL DAY *****Select the new iCLOUD calendar you just created, instead of Gmail account . Hit done. Change the the time from all day to whatever and the time STAYS. It stayed guys. I’ve been at this for about a year on my XR. I have a pet sitting business and I create appointments almost hourly. Gahhh. THANK you whoever you are sir!
  • So I’m hoping the new calendar is synced to my iCloud.

Maybe a SOLUTION! Oops …

I spent numerous hours this morning reading through my the Google calendar support and one user writes to DELETE the Google calendar app from your iPhone. I think it’s working. I made four all day appointment, and then I went back and changed the time, and time is staying. It’s not off by -5 hours.

  • I also went to my desktop and made all day appointment - changed the time - and the time stayed put lol.

I’m praying this is it. I haven’t tried my other Google account. The bug is clearly with the UTC Google time zone in their Calendar app to ‘avoid issues with daylight savings.

  • On Desktop/after deleting Google Cal app from iPhone - I’ve clicked ‘ask to update my primary time zone’ - idk if this helps but it wasn’t checked

  • Another solution would be to stop using all day appointment and just create an approximate time and then change it later.

  • The issue I was having for a year is only if I create all day appointment and then I go back and change it to a time
  • What didn’t work : changing to numerous time zones in my Google Calendar to off set the -5 hours change . None of them worked . I even tried the Europe lol.

Please report back lol . I’ve been going at this for a year. XR phone.

Hello aildb,

Thanks for reaching out through the Apple Support Communities about that behavior when trying to adjust the start time of an event.

To verify, are you toggling the All-day slider to the off position when editing that event?

We ask as all-day events would only have an option to adjust the start and end days, but not the specific times on those days.

Do you experience the same behavior if you create a new all-day event, and then attempt to edit it?

Additionally, do you have multiple calendars set up on your iPhone and iPad? If so, is this behavior happening with multiple calendars?

Hopefully those details will help to further isolate this behavior.

Take care.

Hi chuckbl,

Yes, I am toggling the all-day slider to the off position and then adjusting the times. It does happen if I create a new all-day event and then edit it. I do also have multiple calendars (Gmail calendars) and it happens on all of them but not with iCloud calendars (which I never use).

Thanks for your help!

I also consistently experience the exact same problem. Whenever I change an All Day event to a specific time and save that new setting, Apple calendar changes it to some other random time. Then I have to do a second edit of the event to change it from Apple assigned random time to the time I originally requested. This also happens to other iPhone users I know.

I can’t believe Apple support is not aware of this ongoing frustrating problem.

I just tested this on my iPhone 13 Pro on iOS 15.1.1. I'm using iCloud Calendar. I set a test even for all day for tomorrow. I left it for a little bit to make sure that it populated across all of my devices on iCloud calendar. I went back and just changed it from All Day and then set a time for the event, then tapped Done. Then waited, and the event moved to the time I set it for. I did not experience it changing time.

I do not have Time Zone Override turned on, is it turned on for all those reporting the issue here? I've tried twice on two different days in the calendar to duplicate this and cannot.

My Time Zone Override is turned OFF when I have this issue.

let me describe what happens again, so those reading those note can see if the same problem replicates on their iPhone.

First, just schedule an “All-day” event. Save it.

Then, edit this event by turning OFF the All-day event slider and entering your desired start and end times. Save this change. What is the “actual” time that the event appears?

On my calendar it’s always a few hours earlier, never the one I entered. If I edit this event a second time and re-enter my desired times, it saves it correctly.

Furthermore, if I take this event and edit it yet again to an All-day event, the process repeats.

I have followed your steps exactly. The event appears in my calendar at the time that I set after turning off All Day. I cannot replicate the issue. I'm not saying that you are not seeing this, I'm just saying that I'm unable to replicate it. I even tried creating it on my iPad Pro 11 with iPadOS 15.1 and I cannot replicate it their either. I'm sorry.
