The Magic Keyboard for my iPad Pro 12.9 4th gen stops typing

Every time I’m watching a video or on a phone call on my iPad, the Magic Keyboard refuses to type. The trackpad still works as well as being able to cycle through my apps using Command+Tab but typing just refuses to work.

At times locking the screen and unlocking makes the problem go away for a while but it happens again. Anyone else having this issue?

Is it an issue with software? I have gone through iPadOS 13, 14 and now still happening with iPad OS 15. This should not be happening with such an expensive setup

We understand you're having issues typing while a video plays. To increase you chances of getting a helpful response from the community, we reccomend providing some additional information.

For example, do you have the video playing in Picture in Picture? Or is it being played from Splitview, Slide Over, or are you writing in an app from a Center window?

Is this occurring in Picture in Picture, in a single app, or multiple apps? For example, if you first put a video in Picture in Picture right now, then open the Mail app and try to compose a message, are you able to type there?

Have you restarted the iPad normally since first encountering the behavior? Restart your iPad

If you're unable to compose the test message in Mail, and the behavior persists after restarting, contact Apple Support.

It can be Split View or Picture in Picture, the keyboard will simply stop typing. The on-screen keyboard doesn’t come up when this issue occurs. As I mentioned I can cycle through my apps using Cmd+Tab as well as bring up the spotlight search with Cmd+Space. When I’m watching a video in PiP or Split View, the keyboard will not type on an the other app. This also occurs if I’m on a call using my iPad Pro and is even worse as no troubleshooting fixes that.

When the issue occurs with video, I can lock the screen then unlock and it begins to work sometimes.

With phone calls, locking and unlocking the screen does not resolve the issue. It’s as if the software is stuck on focusing on the video or phone call that it doesn’t provide enough resources for the keyboard to work

Will there be an upcoming fix? It is unreasonable to have to close out of apps and constantly restart to get the keyboard to start working again. I have opened outlook or outlook and gmail apps in split view and the keyboard always stops working until I close out every app and redo it. Sometimes, it won’t work until a restart. For such an expensive add-on to the 12.9” iPad Pro, you would think this necessary multi-tasking item with the keyboard malfunctioning would be fixed. Please let me know when there is a resolution for this.
