I recently had to put behind my third BlackBerry and now have an iPhone 12 Mini. BB legacy phones will soon no longer work. I am struggling with 2 issues.

First, I have a hearing impairment, and iPhone notifications do not cut it. My BB had a loud notification "BING" and a flashing (for about 5 minutes) red LED light on the front. I have my iPhone set up with the loudest notification I can find, plus the flashlight coming on. Totally inadequate.

Second....email "push". I have my server email (not web email) set up on the iPhone. I have my settings on PUSH, and set for every 15 minutes (I see "automatic" works only on Wi-Fi. When on "automatic" I do not get emails at all when away from Wi-Fi and on data. Even with Wi-Fi my emails are coming to the phone in anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. Unacceptable. My BB received emails pretty much immediately. I guess a BB is more of a business, or professional phone.

I have not gotten some important emails in a timely basis. Whats up here? Also, why do my email settings show TWO accounts.....one being iCloud?? According to my settings, iCloud is "push" but my server mail only has "fetch" or manual.

Thanks for your help, anyone!

OK...yes, I added the Gmail webmail on my phone. It shows up now in my settings.....mail....accounts.

OK....I have downloaded the Gmail app again. But the email I want on my phone is not Gmail.....I want my Internet Service Provider email account. How do I get this thru the Gmail app?

I think I am somewhat tech savvy.....but this iPhone process is a struggle. When you told me I needed Exchange mail or Google, for an internet mail server, I thought you were saying I can push my ISP mail through it.

I apologize.....I have always used the term "server" mail for my Internet Service Provider (ISP) mail and this is the mail I receive on my phone. I do have Hotmail and Gmail but rarely use them. I have Gmail set up to also receive my ISP mail, as back up.

I downloaded the Gmail APP again. It needed no setting up. It must have taken the settings from the Gmail web mail I added to the phone.

When I go to Settings....Mail...Accounts, I have Gmail and ISP mail as accounts. BUT...there is no setting to PUSH Gmail....only Fetch @15 minutes. I also have Gmail set as my default mail app.

However, the Gmail APP has no PUSH button.....I have it on Fetch 15 minutes but it does not fetch at all.....only gets email when I open it manually.

I can understand BlackBerry servers and email service being different, but my Samsung tablet receives email promptly also.

So....how do I get the Gmail APP to PUSH? Thanks

My options show the phones software is up to date, tho version 15 is available. I have no indication that my server software needs updating.

I did an experiment. Every morning, I get an automatic email of local events. Comes in at 8AM or very quickly after.

My BlackBerry still works on wireless. I also have a Samsung tablet that works on both wireless AND data. So I have the tablet set on DATA only...(wireless turned off).

This morning at 8 AM, this email showed up on my LAPTOP at 8 AM....a couple minutes later on my tablet (data) and a couple minutes later on my BlackBerry (wireless). All within 5 minutes or so from 8 AM.

I gave up waiting for the email to show up on my iPhone......and a whole HOUR AND A HALF LATER, opened up the iPhone mail app and this email came in. This is despite my mail settings set at FETCH, every 15 minutes. Not happening.

Just for the record, my BlackBerry and Tablet have both been turned off since I got the new iPhone, and only turned on for this experiment. My email account is IMAP for multiple devices.

How do professional and business folks get timely emails on an iPhone?? I have a hearing impairment and do not use voice on a phone. I depend on email and text and often email others back and forth quickly. Not happening on this iPhone and I am very disappointed.

I have spent the last 2 days in frustration. You asked me if I had an Exchange account. I had no idea what that is and I Googled it. Microsoft Exchange. No, I do not have that.

I downloaded both the Outlook and Gmail apps and set them up with my server email address......myname@........ca

I prefer the Google, as it recovered all my email folders from the server. Outlook did not.

However, when I go to Settings....Mail....Accounts, these 2 apps do not show there under ACCOUNTS.. They DO show under "default mail app" and Google does have the Fetch @15 minutes option. But this is not working. I also have Gmail set as my preferred app. There is no option to PUSH either of these apps.

So...what does this mean? Do I have to now add an Exchange account as well and start over?

I appreciate your help, but your replies have not been very detailed. I am 70 years old and simply trying to get my emails promptly. I have never had a problem setting up email on 3 BlackBerrys, a tablet and PC's and a laptop. Why should an Apple be so complicated? thank you
