In Mac OS Monterey, every email now shows "Your network preferences prevent content from loading privately." I have "Mail Privacy Protection: Protect Mail Activity" turned ON, and I want to keep it turned on. I do not have a VPN running. What can I do to fix this? I do not understand why this new feature fails so spectacularly right out of the box.

There is a known clash in Monterey involving 3rd party anti-virus which prevents iCloud mail from loading content in Apple Mail, see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253303599?login=true&page=1 Do you have AV installed eg. Avast/AVG? If so, try a Safe Boot or just turn off your email shield and see if that helps.
Rather than disabling Privoxy by unchecking "Web Proxy (HTTP)" and "Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS)" (via System Preferences->Network->Advanced->Proxies) , I tried bypassing the proxy settings for the *.icloud.com domains (which would include mask.icloud.com and mask-h2.icloud.com) and the *.apple-dns.net domains, but that did not work.
Could there be other domains that need bypassing to let Mail Privacy Protection work? Surely it's not simply because the protocols have been enabled that Mail Privacy Protection refuses to work?
Thank you. It's weird ... this was on but it works sometimes and not others. I can't see how that would switch itself on and off. Why is it working sometimes and not others? My VPN isn't on either, if that means anything.
This is only happening at my office. I use my laptop all over the place and the only location I have seen this is at my office. No VPN. I also do not want to shut off Mail Privacy Protection. Should I switch to Outlook and not deal with Mac Mail?
Was this something you configured in your Network Preferences?
This article essentially says "This may happen if you’re using a Virtual Private Network (VPN)." I am not.
It worked but now what happens to the security we so rightly value????? Will they fix it or uninstall Monterey? In other words, it solved one problem by "unticking" but now what are we up against?

Followup: Restarting fixed it temporarily, but the error came back a bit later.

Whay would you send us to iPhone issues when we're talking about MacOS Monterey on our Mac's??
Maybe it's to do with "Network Preferences" as mentioned above by @iainfromwentworthville ? My Avast Security might be turning on and off so sometimes letting the images download and other times not?
