In Mac OS Monterey, every email now shows "Your network preferences prevent content from loading privately." I have "Mail Privacy Protection: Protect Mail Activity" turned ON, and I want to keep it turned on. I do not have a VPN running. What can I do to fix this? I do not understand why this new feature fails so spectacularly right out of the box.

If this is a poorly written indicator that Apple's IP-hiding proxies are unreachable, and I don't have any VPN or proxy or anything configured, does that mean my ISP is blocking Apple's proxies?
By the way, I don't use a VPN but do have free Avast. I have not turned off any of the Avast shields. It just blocked a malware attempt before I came to this forum so I think it is still working.
That article suggests this happens when connecting via a VPN, however, the OP said "I do not have a VPN running."

You need to subscribe to Apple's for-pay cloud service to get this privacy feature. Just ignore the message or load the content.
