MacBook pro 2019 after monterey update the computer won’t turn on at all.

tried the usual suspects (pram, pressing command-option-r etc.) but nothing. Computer is also perfectly powered but nothing, no chime, no harddrive sound just a dead computer after the monterey update.

seems like a computer without power but it is fully powered

Problem: you need a second computer with the same or an higher operating system version.

As I didn’t have a second machine with Monterey already running, I went to the Apple Store and they revived the T2 chip. Problem solved and I hope this will also help others who faced bricked computers after the Monterey install.

The same issue and also one acquaintance the same. It’s incredible because my Mac Book Pro is only one year old. Let’s see what they say in Apple Store Genius Bar. I hate when they make you feel an idiot when it’s a known issue and they should give you an inmediate replacement. It is so inconvenient that if they make me waste time with repair I would need to buy a new one for urgent work.

Update:

I had a chat with support and they couldn’t help. The recommendation was to go to the genius bar but this will result in losing all data on the computer. Seems to be the Apple standard procedure. Unfortunately I didn’t make a full backup this time that’s why I’m hesitant to be the guinea pig for Apple support.

I will wait a couple of days to see how many people are affected and if the numbers are high enough Apple will hopefully provide a solution for dead computers after the Monterey install.

I beg to disagree that some actually are monitoring. Apple may have received many tickets of this problem at least from my city as I was told. This crazy defective update should be stopped. I felt so disappointed as a long term Mac user with one year old laptop in the Apple list of non problematic laptops for the Monterey update. The same happened with another person I know in another part of the planet.

I have the same issue, I brought my 2020 Imac to service center, and it was said that he will test on power board and may replace it. It is caused by update for sure since it was working really great before I clicked the button "update" and restart (no idea about the root cause, boot loader kernel massed up by update?). It happend just 2 weeks after warrenty ends...

Yea I figured that was the case. I tried to use apple controller 2 to revive it but my air wouldn’t work “ can’t use the thunderbolt accessory”. I’ve got a call into to my uncle he has a new M1. Hopefully I can use his as a host and get this unbricked without paying Apple a bunch of money to fix a problem they caused. SMH. Wish I could use my iPad Pro as a host pc but that’s nixed as well.

Bought my MacBook Pro 13 inch this year in February and after upgrading to the new version of Big Sur the Tab bar disappeared and I couldn’t do anything other than poke around blindly to increase the volume and such… I have called Apple numerous times and spent many hours on the phone with them trying to troubleshoot… It continues to turn off every 3 to 5 minutes., At the insistent of the tech he suggested I download Monterey which I did and it only increase the problems!!! Took it into Apple and told them that many people have been having this problem and they looked at me cross side like I was the first person that had any issues like this… Smoke and mirrors smoke and mirrors… Very frustrating… am awaiting a five day repair to come back to see if it fixes the issue!!! Told him I wanted a new computer and they said that wasn’t possible…$2000+ down the drain 🤬…no wonder they’re trillionaire‘s!!! Criminal and wrong!!!

Disgusting. I'm going to Apple later today. Bracing for some nonsense how I'm expected to buy a new motherboard. Talk about juicing the quarterly earnings by forcing customers to pay hundreds on hardware issues of the company's own making.

Can't believe this company managed to release an update that's screwing up laptops just two years old. And that they're then willing to ignore what they did to milk a little more money from us. Considering this happened with Big Sur, I expect each update to create the same problems going forward (gotta top the quarterly numbers, of course).

Apple says I need to pay $572 to fix the issue. Nothing else worked. That’s almost a third of the price I paid for my 2019 MacBook Pro a year and a half ago. It worked perfectly fine until it restarted during the Monterey update.

I’m never ever buying a MacBook again. What kind of horrible company charges customers to fix a problem their own software created?

And no I’m not fixing. I’d rather smash the piece of junk than give Apple another dime.

I'm right with you. I paid $1,800 for this laptop already. I didn't bother with Apple Care--I take care of my equipment and expect it to degrade like any other tech over time. Never had an issue with it or the MacBook Air I've had for five years before it (that thing runs great but I've also kept it on an older OS--and have zero plans of ever updating it again).

An update shouldn't kill a computer. Apple ought to be compiling the number of customers coming in with these issues and address it an equitable manner that doesn't alienate. Instead, reps are trained to say "this update goes to millions of computers and there's no problems with it." Well, surprise, there's problems. There were problems like this with Big Sur too.

I think to Apple, if it's a small enough percentage of overall users, they'd rather just ignore the issue, collect money where they can from customers who do opt to repair out of warranty and ultimately hope they just buy a new MacBook anyway. They have a corporate responsibility to create products that work and can function with the software THEY CREATE. Instead, it's about profits. That's all this is.

This aint Steve Jobs's Apple anymore. Rather than handing Apple another $572, I spent more than double that on a Lenovo. And that will end my relationship with Apple as far as computers go. It's not about the money. If they asked for $100, I'd have done the same. It's absolutely despicable to put the burden of repairs on the back of the customer when their own software is at fault.
