MacBook won‘t turn on after Monterey install

lol, 100% agree with you. I had Apple Care+. It was useful to be honest, I had an issue with my webcam, they replaced the entire display last year. But last year was also the year it ended my Apple Care+, and this year they release this bomb update.

I also have this problem after clicking update on my MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014). The machine is bricked and won't boot.

I have an intel Mac Mini that has been updated successfully to Monterey (phew!).

Catalina installed with no issues, updated back to Big Sur again with no issues. Think I will hold off on Monterey for the time being. I did not glue the screen back on yet just in case I decide to try again and have to swap out my non apple ssd to install.

We're discussing this on apple's official platform and so far no official statement from Apple. (The one which Rene shared is unofficial according to apple support since it didn't come directly from Apple.)

I don't think apple given its reputation of being the torch bearer for new consumer tech. and charging a premium price for its product should treat their customers like this. It's a simple fact that thier update has bricked our laptops and they're liable to fix it.

Apparently apple send updates to its devices to negatively impact older devices. look at the following news article I found:

I have MacBook Pro 2019 13 inch. After Monterey it started to reboot automatically every 137 sec (literally second to second) otherwise everything works fine. I removed the monterey and it bricked. After restoring T2 it still reboots every 137 sec and doesn’t let me to finish installation of MacOS. No Apple Genius Bar around, only authorized service providers that ask me to pay money for even taking a look at my Mac. I ain’t gonna pay a single penny.

Same here.

So far I don’t see any announcements in Apple websites of this undesired outcome. My problem was solved quickly but these coming days I am sure Apple Genius Bars would be busy fixing brick laptops.
