MacBook won‘t turn on after Monterey install

MacBook pro 2019 after monterey update the computer won’t turn on at all.

tried the usual suspects (pram, pressing command-option-r etc.) but nothing. Computer is also perfectly powered but nothing, no chime, no harddrive sound just a dead computer after the monterey update.

seems like a computer without power but it is fully powered

Problem: you need a second computer with the same or an higher operating system version.

As I didn’t have a second machine with Monterey already running, I went to the Apple Store and they revived the T2 chip. Problem solved and I hope this will also help others who faced bricked computers after the Monterey install.

Right? My thoughts exactly. I was wanting to sell my MacBook Pro 2016 to buy the new 14".

At least they changed my mobo at no cost after lot of arguing. But still leaves a bad taste in the mouth that this can happen again with the new one, and who knows if they will fix it the next time. And it makes me feel that paying extra for Apple Care+ is kinda useless, as I had it, and just some months after it expired, the Monterey thing happened.

I paid (before it was known that this was a common problem). When they put in a new motherboard, they brought me back to Catalina rather than Monterey. So, when I complained on the phone to Apple with a Senior Adviser, he didn't believe that I had upgraded to Monterey before the problem occurred because I now had an old operating system on my machine. I'm going to dispute the charge when Visa bills me.

We're discussing this on apple's official platform and so far no official statement from Apple. (The one which Rene shared is unofficial according to apple support since it didn't come directly from Apple.)

I don't think apple given its reputation of being the torch bearer for new consumer tech. and charging a premium price for its product should treat their customers like this. It's a simple fact that thier update has bricked our laptops and they're liable to fix it.

I have MacBook Pro 2019 13 inch. After Monterey it started to reboot automatically every 137 sec (literally second to second) otherwise everything works fine. I removed the monterey and it bricked. After restoring T2 it still reboots every 137 sec and doesn’t let me to finish installation of MacOS. No Apple Genius Bar around, only authorized service providers that ask me to pay money for even taking a look at my Mac. I ain’t gonna pay a single penny.

I feel sad for all of us here but I don't think we can do much about it. I've visited multiple authorized service providers, endless emails to apple support, spoke with 4 different "apple senior advisers", raised a complaint in consumer forum. At this stage i've lost all hope of getting it repaired from apple without paying ~$900. Apple is really scamming their customers and many of them are apple loyalists who are too deep in their ecosystem.

Unless there is a program from apple to repair/exchange these devices, we've to pay out of our pocket.

My MacBook is officially dead!

My colleague who repairs MacBooks for a living took a look. Some part of the logicboard is burned. That specific logicboard seems to be especially rare. Can’t find anything under 500€.

So sad! That is planned obsolescence as it’s finest. They brought out their own chips and burned the old ones with one freaking update!

Apple will never offer a replacement program for this. They will just sweep it under the carpet like it never happened!

Same here, i have a MBP 15'' touchbar 2017, tried to update to Monterey, then the Mac wouldn't turn on anymore.

Apple wants me to pay 800€ to replace motherboard whilst that is clearly their issue.

Hopefully, Apple won't play dead on this because this is really disappointing and upsetting (I am a professional video producer, I have used mac since 2004, I hava had over 20 machines, that's not ok for me to have that kind of answers from them...) !
