I just got the new AirPods 3 and a very high pitched ringing/rattling noise comes out of the right AirPod only when no sound is playing.
Is that normal?
Would this be a software bug or could it be hardware related?
I only have them connected to my iPhone 11 if that helps.

Your description sounds rather like audio feedback, so it could be as simple as making sure the AirPod is correctly positioned in your ear, and the volume setting is not too high.
Follow Apple's advice in How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support to reset and reconnect your AirPods. If that doesn't solve the problem you might have a defective AirPod, contact Apple Support.
Your 2nd pair is also having the same issues ?
Yes i try to test it again&again .that problem is still 4c170 just decreace a little noise
this problem on my left airpod[right airpod it working fine], i will reclaim it.
4C170 has not fixed it for me either. Returning.
I read similar reports on Reddit that it fixed it for some users. Not the case for me y fortunately :(

[related to the answer if is an iOS issue] is not, I tested across several devices, macbook pro old, new, mac mini, iPad, ... it happen in all of them. I am in the second pair and still have the issue.
I have experienced the same issue, and I was getting ready to AppleCare to report defective AirPods. Now after reading this thread, I see that this is a known issue.
AirPods 3 - brand new. Used only for a couple days.
Issue was presented from DAY 1.
Paired to Brand New iPhone 13 mini.
The RIGHT AirPod plays a VERY HIGH frequency pulsating tone when the AirPods are just standing-by in my ears. This happens in the right AirPod only, and the tone comes and goes depending on how the AirPods are being used.
This is incredibly annoying, it makes you feel as if your ears are ringing like Tinnitus.
Please FIX Apple!!
See many people are having this issue. Right airpod which crackles and then no sound. Been using on my Apple TV only right now. If I pause the show and press play it goes away. Also, having issues with sound not syncing with picture. Mouth and sound of voice not in sync. Bluetooth issue I assume.
i bought my airpods 3 today and i have the same problem :(( im surprised to see there are lots of ppl who experienced this as well and very disappointed, im gonna contact the assistance tomorrow and if they cant fix it ill probably return them and take the airpods 2 instead. please apple FIX THIS
