Quicktime video recording stops at 10:55 in MacOS Monterey

Since upgrading to MacOS Monterey, Quicktime Player now stops recording at 10 minute and 55 seconds. I can no longer record any video segments longer than that. Prior to upgrading, I routinely recorded Quicktime videos in excess of one hour.

I've confirmed that this behavior occurs both with the built-in Mac camera and an external Logitech Brio camera.

It is resolved. I made the adjustment with the battery options... Make sure that all boxes in "Battery" option are unchecked except "Optimized battery charging" and "Show battery status in menu bar" and go to "Power Adapter" option to uncheck all boxes. It is important that "Turn display off after:" changed to "Never" on both "Battery" and "Power Adapter". I tested it and the camera recording ran more than 20 minutes without abruptly stopped it.

I've tried making QuickTime recordings in a standard (non-admin) user account. The recordings still stop. In safe mode, QuickTime Player crashes when I attempt a recording, which I find even more bizarre.

This is very clearly caused by some sort of bug in the Monterey OS. I've had to resort to pulling an old Mac out of mothballs to do my QuickTime class recordings.

macOS Monterey is no longer allowing Quicktime to record past 10:55 mins. I've been trying to digitise my old mini tapes using Quicktime but the recording continually stops at 10:55 mins. At first I thought it had something to do with the Battery settings and after changing all relevant options, the problem continued. My saving grace was that I could use my partner's Mac which still runs on the Big Sur operating system.

You would think that upgrades to a new operating system would undergo thorough testing prior to releasing?

Apple, please fix this problem asap.

I started having the same problem right after upgrading from Yosemite to Monterey.

It almost always fails at 10:55, but occasional exceptions have happened where I could record beyond that time. Those were under the following conditions:

  • The machine was cold during the successful recording, and so the USB port was also cold.
  • The machine was restarted right before the successful recording.

But these exceptions aren't always guaranteed either. I'm now entirely at a loss as for what to do. I'm recording TV programs using a cheap (like $10) HDMI device. I used to be able to record for an hour with the same device with no problem, with Yosemite.

This is ridiculous. This is an APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE issue not a quicktime issue nor a hardware issue, nor a settings issue.

There were no '10:55' issues prior to the Monterey update❗️

I have even purchased seperate player apps as to not use the quicktime app, all videos on all apps stop at 10:55❗️❗️

This has been going on for more than 4 months APPLE❗️

Great congratulations you have a means of getting your projects completed. They’ll fix it. You have your 10 yr old Mac that’s working so that there shows you their products stand the test of time. Seems like your options are wait and use your older machine, complain, or get a PC and see what real problems look like haha. Have you tried recording on high instead of maximum? That is what works for me.
