Quicktime video recording stops at 10:55 in MacOS Monterey

Since upgrading to MacOS Monterey, Quicktime Player now stops recording at 10 minute and 55 seconds. I can no longer record any video segments longer than that. Prior to upgrading, I routinely recorded Quicktime videos in excess of one hour.

I've confirmed that this behavior occurs both with the built-in Mac camera and an external Logitech Brio camera.

It is resolved. I made the adjustment with the battery options... Make sure that all boxes in "Battery" option are unchecked except "Optimized battery charging" and "Show battery status in menu bar" and go to "Power Adapter" option to uncheck all boxes. It is important that "Turn display off after:" changed to "Never" on both "Battery" and "Power Adapter". I tested it and the camera recording ran more than 20 minutes without abruptly stopped it.

I am on Macbook Air 2020, 1TB, 1.2 ghz quad core i7, 16 gb memory, on Big Sur 11.6. Got this April 2020 brand new and Quicktime has NEVER worked for me. All i ever tried to do was play videos on it- like .mov from my photo/video library. They play for 3 seconds and then "quit unexpectedly". And chatting with Apple, or researching on my own has not provided any solution. Im not even using a camera or converting VHS tapes. I just want to watch a video clip. I was hoping a 12 GB Monterey update would be the savior to the constant crashing. But from it sounds like here, Monterey won't help at all. I don't understand why there isn't an QT update or upgrade! Why is Apple ignoring Quicktime?!

Me too on new M1. The fact that there is not a fix still and the fact that this is one of the most used cameras tells me how much apples cares.

Since I bought the M1 to replace a 10 year old Mac Pro that internal clock battery expired I feel like a fool to stick with apple. To copy a cd I need an external drive and an adapter. I have wires all over my desk for power and a sound card. On top of that I can do less with the m1 than with the old Mac Pro and have spent hundreds on adapters etc.

Quicktime does not work with the most popular web camera on the market? My iPhone will not work as a web cam without the onscreen indicators showing? Give me a break. Why can I not do simple things that I could do in 20:years ago with my computer? I know when I have been screwed. Apples think differently has become a consumer state of alternative reality and willing giving apple direct access to your bank account. I am woke.

Thanks for trying to help. I have a MacBook Air m1. Therefore there are not any fans. All power settings set to never.

shouldn’t apple be trying to find a solution? Maybe find a technology that allows one to use the iPhone as a webcam or live camera without the displays showing. Maybe a real doc like I had twenty years ago on a IBM and Panasonic tough book. If you do. Ot have a good docking situation don’t put the option to hookup up stuff with adapters. Good grief!

>> Here is a step-by-step solution to this bug that works more than 75% of the time.

Unfortunately, solutions that work 75% of time fail the other 25% of the time. When I'm trying to record an hour-long lecture in front of an audience, I don't want to find out after the fact that this particular time Quicktime decided to crash again, and all my work has been lost.

Trying to outsmart a major bug in someone's code is (in my opinion) an exercise in futility. No matter what clever workaround you come up with, you'll never be certain if it will fail yet again. Apple needs to fix this problem in Monterey. I urge everyone on this thread to file a bug report with Apple.

Well, this is absolute frustration. Way to go Apple. Tinkered around with sh** enough and made something fail that used to work. Leave it alone. That said, please fix it. This thread proves the attention to it is nil. Over 20 years a Mac user and the last 5 have been terrible. Taking control away from the user more and more.

Unlike most here, I was having no issues at all with the QT 10:55(6) issue UNTIL I upgraded to Monterey 12.1, not Monterey itself, but the most current update as of this post. Today is the first time I have ever had a problem. After spending all morning doing most of the tests suggested in this thread, I found this thread. SMFH.

Seriously, tired of Apple "making things better" that worked perfectly fine.

For now, I recently acquired an older MacBook Pro with the hardware accelerated encoding that QuickTime uses for video capture. (in this case, Intel QuickSync). I plan on running an older Mac OS that doesn't have this QuickTime bug, and I will probably continue using it, even if Apple ever fixes this bug under Monterey.

I've also experienced some odd playback bugs with MP4 video files in QuickTime as well during seeking. Sometimes the video will get "stuck" while the audio track keeps playing.

It's a shame since before these bugs, QuickTime was a rather great lightweight app for playback and recording.

You seem very angry, and I will contend your anger is for a reason that is valid and warranted, hostility in an Apple discussion forum post is not going to make Apple fix the problem quickly. I’m going to proffer an alternative to anger. Patience. It is not ideal and it is frustratingly difficult, but expressing your issues with this problem calmly will translate into a post that Apple will actually read and take into consideration. I hope this helps.
