macOS Monterey 12.0.1 & Magic Mouse / Calendar Issues

Has anyone experienced the following since upgrading to macOS Monterey 12.0.1?

I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro and since upgrading when I return to my Mac after taking a break, when I wake the laptop using the mouse, I notice that I cannot scroll with the mouse (Apple Magic Mouse) unless I turn the mouse off and on again. Track pad works fine all the time, just the Magic Mouse is an issue.

Secondly, since upgrading my Calendar app now takes up to 30 seconds to open. Whether it's related I have also seen problems with the calendar apps on iPad and iPhone (and widgets too) - so maybe it's just a bug in the calendar app. I have tried unticking each calendar and restarting the app to no avail.

Anyone?

Cheers, Mark.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

I recently upgraded to Monterey and today I worked with my M1 MacBook docked on Bridge, Discovered that Yes I have same problems with Magic Mouse 3 and Magic Keyboard.

Unable To scroll

Connection on and off and mouse gets disconnected and connected again.

Magic Keyboard keeps disconnecting.

All Accessories have 90% battery.

Apple please fix it. Anybody knows how can I roll back to big sur?

Thank you

Unfortunately, rebooting seems to immediately fix the problem of loss of scrolling ability (until the next prolonged sleep of the computer). Interestingly, just for fun, I tried two different magic mice (mouses??) and the problem is evident for both units. When booted into safe mode, does the Mac continue to enter the sleep mode as it would under normal operation? For the moment, I have just started shutting down my iMac at the end of the day and starting it up each morning (thus limiting the potential for prolonged sleep cycles). Hoping that we see 12.0.2 in the near future!!

Today the problem seems gone, I tried several times to put the MacBook on sleep and wake it up and no more problems when scrolling down... no updates installed, definitely no safe mode, I didn't turn off the device, nothing has been done.

The only difference from yesterday is that I switched off the mouse and on again.

Glad everything is fine again.

Luca

iMac 5K 2017 with Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2. Have on multiple occasions tried to wake my iMac with a click on the trackpad or hitting space on keyboard.. nothing. Hit the power button and it wakes right up but it doesn't recognize the trackpad or keyboard. I have to plug a lightning cable into each device to use them but as soon as I disconnect the cable they stop working which means the bluetooth is not connected. Turning bluetooth off and on usually fixes it.

Very annoying and a seemingly completely avoidable bug given that these are genuine Apple peripherals. What happened in the beta testing????

Yay, Mark! You found the bug and the fix. Albeit temporary. I upgraded to Monterey 12.0.1 overnight and was mortified that nothing would scroll. I'm actually on hold right now with Apple tech support and escalating this up to another tech. For now, I can be productive with the Magic Mouse. Turn OFF and ON the switch returns the scroll function to all programs and browsers.

M1 MBA ~

Glad I'm not the only one... using a refurbished Magic Mouse, and really didn't want to have to buy a new one. It is super annoying, but I'm a bit relieved it is likely a software issue and not my mouse dying...

Still... I'm surprised it is an issue at all. You'd think Apple would make sure their mouse works without having to turn it off and back on multiple times a day...

After installation of Mac iOS 12.0.1 in an attempt to get Photoshop Elements 2022 to run without crashing, I discovered that my Magic Mouse 2 would no longer scroll without restarting the computer after any point where the system went to sleep. In addition, I also encountered a weird bug where it would not delete any icloud e-mails from the computer. I would select e-mails, hit delete and they would briefly go away, but then quick reload as if recently received. Oddly, in testing with the Apple support folks, we discovered that deletion of e-mails worked find in iCloud.com, so this is most likely another bug in Monterey. For the moment, because I need to have PSE working reliably, I have downgraded to Big Sur (iOS 11.6.1) and everything seems to work just fine. Of course, that meant a full wipe and reinstallation, but for me it was worth the brief pain as compared to fussing with a buggy Monterey.

SOLUTION: Here is the solution that worked for me after speaking with Apple support.

On your MAC you are going to remove and then reinstall the mouse/device.

1) Go into bluetooth preferences

2) Right click on the mouse/device that is not responding

3) Select remove

4) After removing, turn the power off on your mouse/device and turn it back on

5) You MAC should then auto-detect the bluetooth device.

6) Add the device once auto-detected.

It should work after removing and re-installing. It worked for me.
