macOS Monterey 12.0.1 & Magic Mouse / Calendar Issues

Has anyone experienced the following since upgrading to macOS Monterey 12.0.1?

I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro and since upgrading when I return to my Mac after taking a break, when I wake the laptop using the mouse, I notice that I cannot scroll with the mouse (Apple Magic Mouse) unless I turn the mouse off and on again. Track pad works fine all the time, just the Magic Mouse is an issue.

Secondly, since upgrading my Calendar app now takes up to 30 seconds to open. Whether it's related I have also seen problems with the calendar apps on iPad and iPhone (and widgets too) - so maybe it's just a bug in the calendar app. I have tried unticking each calendar and restarting the app to no avail.

Anyone?

Cheers, Mark.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

iMac 5K 2017 with Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2. Have on multiple occasions tried to wake my iMac with a click on the trackpad or hitting space on keyboard.. nothing. Hit the power button and it wakes right up but it doesn't recognize the trackpad or keyboard. I have to plug a lightning cable into each device to use them but as soon as I disconnect the cable they stop working which means the bluetooth is not connected. Turning bluetooth off and on usually fixes it.

Very annoying and a seemingly completely avoidable bug given that these are genuine Apple peripherals. What happened in the beta testing????

I have documented my struggles with Monterey and the Magic Mouse here before, but now I have good news to report. Yesterday I got angry and instead of putting my Mac to sleep at the end of a frustrating work session, I shut it down. I didn't bother to unplug it, but I did shut it down. This morning when I restarted it, the process took longer than usual, but then everything, including the mouse, worked. Did Apple slip in a fix overnight? I don't pretend to understand, but I am grateful.

I also upgraded to macOS Monterey 12.1 and the problem I had with losing scroll and gesture functions with my Magic Mouse has disappeared (so far). However, if I run diagnostics with the mouse connected I still get an error message, "There may be an issue with the trackpad. Reference Code: NDR005, NDR006." There is no error if I turn the mouse off before running diagnostics. I thought the error message was related to the loss of mouse functions, but apparently not...

Incidentally, like others I had trouble updating to 12.1 with my M1 MacBook Air. When I checked for an update, it told me I was up to date with 12.0.1. I had to boot into Recovery mode and reinstall the OS in order to get 12.1.

Thank You. Turning magic mouse on and off, or removing from Macair and then reinstalling will work - ditto turning the mac on or off......will reinstall the mouse and all its facilities. BUT only for some time. In general, it seems its about 24hrs or so before it drops out and misbehaves! 1st World problem, just not good enough from Apple.

Update on the Monterey update: 12.0 broke my Magic Mouse. 12.0.1 fixed it. 12.1 broke it again. My Mac does seem faster, but once again I have to turn off blue tooth, turn off the wireless mouse, turn blue tooth back on, and then turn the mouse back on. Not a big deal but also not up to Apple's level of excellence.

I called Apple Support on Thursday because my Magic Mouse was really being uncooperative. It would either slow down or stop moving the cursor left and right. Deleting preferences only lasted a few moments. Oddly enough, blowing into the hole on the underside of the mouse, where the infrared sensor is, would also help for just a short period of time. Keep in mind that blowing air into this location is recommended, should it get dirty. But, my mouse is new, as is my iMac, so that isn't the case. So, after describing the issue to the Apple Support person, I was told that Apple is aware of a bug causing this problem that was introduced in the last update. It will be addressed in a future update but the support person didn't know if it would be addressed in Monterey 12.3 due to be out in another week or two or in a later update.
