macOS Monterey 12.0.1 & Magic Mouse / Calendar Issues

Has anyone experienced the following since upgrading to macOS Monterey 12.0.1?

I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro and since upgrading when I return to my Mac after taking a break, when I wake the laptop using the mouse, I notice that I cannot scroll with the mouse (Apple Magic Mouse) unless I turn the mouse off and on again. Track pad works fine all the time, just the Magic Mouse is an issue.

Secondly, since upgrading my Calendar app now takes up to 30 seconds to open. Whether it's related I have also seen problems with the calendar apps on iPad and iPhone (and widgets too) - so maybe it's just a bug in the calendar app. I have tried unticking each calendar and restarting the app to no avail.

Anyone?

Cheers, Mark.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

I had mentioned this problem with my MacBook Air M1 and Magic Mouse Model A1657 here some time ago. Specifically, the trackpad functions of the mouse stop working, while moving the cursor and clicking are fine.

I have been dealing with the problem by hovering over the bluetooth icon at the top of the screen, turning the Magic Mouse OFF, then back ON, then enabling it with the mouse from the trackpad. This seems to work every time and doesn’t take very long.

However, I now have a new development to report. Several months ago, I had a problem with the screen turning pink and then crashing. I ran the M1 diagnostics and got the following result, "There may be an issue with the trackpad. Reference Code: NDR005, NDR006." Later, I read that the anti-virus software ClamXAV might be causing the Pink Screen crash, so I disabled it. No more crashes. Later I re-installed it and after awhile got another Pink Screen crash. So now it's gone.

However, I still have the trackpad diagnostic error. I was concerned about this, so I took the MacBook Air to the Genius Bar. They ran the diagnostic and found nothing. They kept it overnight and ran a complete series of tests with no problems (by the way the Magic Mouse was home on my desk - I did not even think there was a relationship).

Tonight I ran the diagnostic again and again got the trackpad error. For the first time thinking that there was a connection to the  Magic Mouse problems, I turned the Mouse off and ran the diagnostic again with results that said, "No issues found. Reference Codes:ADP000."

I have repeated the diagnostic test several times. Magic Mouse on and connected gives trackpad errors. Magic Mouse off gives no errors.

Hopefully others are correct and Apple will fix this soon.

After installation of Mac iOS 12.0.1 in an attempt to get Photoshop Elements 2022 to run without crashing, I discovered that my Magic Mouse 2 would no longer scroll without restarting the computer after any point where the system went to sleep. In addition, I also encountered a weird bug where it would not delete any icloud e-mails from the computer. I would select e-mails, hit delete and they would briefly go away, but then quick reload as if recently received. Oddly, in testing with the Apple support folks, we discovered that deletion of e-mails worked find in iCloud.com, so this is most likely another bug in Monterey. For the moment, because I need to have PSE working reliably, I have downgraded to Big Sur (iOS 11.6.1) and everything seems to work just fine. Of course, that meant a full wipe and reinstallation, but for me it was worth the brief pain as compared to fussing with a buggy Monterey.

SOLUTION: Here is the solution that worked for me after speaking with Apple support.

On your MAC you are going to remove and then reinstall the mouse/device.

1) Go into bluetooth preferences

2) Right click on the mouse/device that is not responding

3) Select remove

4) After removing, turn the power off on your mouse/device and turn it back on

5) You MAC should then auto-detect the bluetooth device.

6) Add the device once auto-detected.

It should work after removing and re-installing. It worked for me.

Upgraded to macOS Monterey 12.1 and it seems to have solved the issue with the Magic Mouse disconnecting every time my iMac woke up from Sleep. Had made at least 3 calls to Apple Support that didn't solve the problem, though they tried. I had told them each time it seemed it happened after I upgraded to Monterey 12.0.1, but they didn't appear to know there was a problem that many were having.

Had an appt. to take my iMac and new Magic Mouse in today, but found this discussion last night. Had not been alerted by auto alerts that an upgrade was available, but when I manually went to Software Update, there was an upgrade to Monterey 12.1 available. I did it (took quite a while) and voila--it seems to have solved the Mouse disconnect problem! Canceled my appt. to take it in. Here's hoping it continues to work properly!

I have found a workaround, although I hope it is temporary and that Apple gets a fix out quickly. When I wake up my Mac (late 2015), the mouse is always non responsive now I immediately turn off Bluetooth and then the Magic Mouse. (I use an old, corded expanded keyboard, so I don't know if the one that shipped with the Mac is affected.) Next I pour myself a cup of coffee and then turn back on first bluetooth and then the mouse, which responds. It's an annoyance but minor and saves me the hassle of having to wait for a reboot to complete.

I continue to have problems with a dead Magic Mouse when I wake my Mac from Sleep, but I've discovered a reasonably quick workaround. I use my old corded mouse to turn off Blue Tooth. I manually turn off the Magic Mouse. I count to 10. I turn Blue Tooth Back on. I turn the Magic Mouse back on. I have been doing this for several days now, and every time it has worked. It's frustrating but not as much as having to reboot. I agree that Apple really dropped the ball on this one.
