Apple Watch steals Airpods connection when I receive a notification

I've tried all the recommended fixes. It's most prevalent during workouts, but sometimes it'll happen with other notifications as well.

Things I've tried on Apple Watch:

* During off Voice Feedback in the Workout setting on Apple Watch

* Disabling handoff

Things I've tried on Airpods:

* Turning on "When I last connected to this iPhone" setting

Disabling handoff appeared to work pre-iOS 15, but now it happens all the time. Extremely frustrating that this has appeared to be an issue for a long time and no fix seems to be considered.

interesting. I tried a friends Sony Bluetooth buds and do not have the issue at all. Seems like AirPods are the problem. Sad I need to switch away from AirPods but it sounds like there’s zero interest in fixing this.

I have the exact same issue, with Teams. So, I'm in a Teams call with my AirPods while taking a walk and recording it as an exercise with the Apple Watch. Every time the watch announces another completed milestone (kilometer, half-way done), it "grabs" the AirPods, and the Teams call falls back to speaker mode. I'd even consider this a privacy issue.

My Airpods will disconnect from my phone, stopping whatever music I'm listening to, and play the notification from the Watch. It then will not reconnect to my phone.
