Calendar crashes after update to iOS 15.1

Hi,

Several days ago I updated my iPhone 12 to latest iOS 15.1 and what right after the update my Calendar app started freezing and sometimes crashing.

After multiple attempts to solve the issue by the Apple support the problem is still there.

Following suggestion of the apple advisors I did the following:

hard restart (+,-, side button)
reseting all setting
deleting all data and restore from iCloud back up
deleting the Calendar app and reinstaling from App Store

The problem was gone only when I restored my iPhone via finder on my MacBook Pro.

However, right after I restored my iPhone from iCloud backup the problem was back again.

During last call with Apple, the advisor suggested that perhaps screen of my iPhone is somehow damaged, which honestly makes no sense as all other apps work just fine.

It all looks like the bug appeared in my iCloud backup after latest update and it seems Apple is not capable of resolving the issue (all in all I was in contact with apple support 5 times during this week)

Would be great to know if you had similar issue and if it was resolved other than restoring the iPhone from the scratch.

I was having the same issue for weeks on my 11 Pro Max and now the 13 Pro Max.

I was just able to fix it by clicking on the “Calendars” after it loaded and then unselecting ‘Siri Siggested’, ‘Birthdays’, ‘Calendar’, ‘Work’ and ‘Home’ calendars. I left the exchange one selected then clicking “done”. It immediately fixed the issue but I verified by closing the app then reloading and selecting the calendars I want. The interface looks a little different but now it loads fine.

maybe this’ll help others fix their crashing and stuck/slowcalendar app.

Apple Support in the Netherlands listened to me and found multiple reports of the issue, so for sure the issue is recognized now within Apple as related to use of the Calendar with an Exchange account.

The only suggestion was to see if removing my Exchange solved the issue, which I refused as it makes no sense to test with an empty Calendar.

There is no solution yet.

Yes, I agree that there is some communication issue happening. What I did was abandon the Apple calendar. I’m using the Outlook app and linked in my Office 365 and Gmail accounts to that. It works better. I think Apple should address this issue asap—it’s a glitch in their update 15.1 as this was not happening before that: everyone I know is having this issue.

The bug happens not only with Exchange but also with other calendars, in my case with Google calendar, that have many events. It's at least a performance/scalability issue of 15.1.

Reviewing further, if you unselect the 3 lines button before the search icon it also makes it work faster. Something about this feature make it sluggish.

Every time I launch the calendar app it takes several minutes for it to allow you to scroll. Many times when you’re scrolling it is sluggish. I am also using Microsoft exchange and from reading some of the post here it looks like that may be the issue.

I deleted from the Outlook Exchange and restarted. Didn't fix it. I'm not surprised since my iPad, also updated to 15.1 has no problem with its calendar, at all. Now I have to take my iPad with me to schedule medical appointments.

Same calendar problem with iPhone 11. Calendar connects to Google Calendar and Microsoft 365. Both are necessary for my work.

It freezes and crashes. When it works... there is a 10 seconds delay before it can scroll up or down etc. Sucks

After having read some previous post posted earlier today I checked and I am on iOS 15.2 and the issue is still continuing with my iPhone, iPad, iMac. I really think it has something to do with the iCloud server as it can be difficult to create an event and even see shared calendars (which appear and then disappear).

I have a brand new iPhone as of last week. Updated 15.2, the problem persists. I don’t have exchange on my phone, so that’s not a possible explanation. This is clearly an Apple server/compatibility problem. Like almost every problem on an iPhone, this is their fault, they are $1 trillion company that cannot maintain updates and devices across all of their different products.
