How can I move a backup file out of iCloud?

I have iPhone backup files taking up too much space in my iCloud account. I'd like to move those to my external hard drive. How do I find these files to move them elsewhere?


I tried looking through system preferences on my MacBook, and though I can see the files, I can't move them.


I tried going through icloud.com, through the settings in my phone, and I've tried searching for them via the iCloud folder in finder (which is what I thought should be the easiest route). Where are they??

Wondering if it might be simpler to just back up your iPhone to your Mac / external drive.


If you delete the iCloud backup for your iPhone,

iCloud stops automatically backing up the device.
