textedit under Monterey crashes when trying to Open Recent file

I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro M1 13” 2020 to MacOS Monterey.

Now textedit crashes when I try to Open Recent and select one of the files listed. It doesn’t seem to matter which file I select. I sent reports to Apple.

I tried rebooting, checking disks for errors, reinstalling Monterey, nothing helps.

Is this a known issue or is something wrong with my setup somewhere?

Also don’t know if any of this is related but

  1. when I use Stickies, the font colors select only allow me to select Spectrum.

  1. for both Big Sur and Monterey, when I put my laptop to sleep for over two hours, it doesn’t wake up easily, incredibly frustrating, pressing keys and keypad looking at a black screen (but top row of keys light up) so I decided to just power down and power up in safe mode from now on.

Thanks for reading.

Log into a basic admin user account, Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac and see if the problem persists. This tells us if the problem is limited to your user account or is system wide.

If the problem doesn't persist in the other account then there may be some 3rd party software that's causing the problem. In that case download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

IMPORTANT:

Before running Etrecheck assign Full Disk Access to Etrecheck in the Etrecheck's Privacy preference pane so that it can get additional information from the Console and log files for the report:

Also click and read the About info to further permit full disk access.

Copy the report

and use the Additional Text button to include the report in your reply.

Address Text Edit application only. Does the present with booted in to and running in Safe Mode

Safe mode may help you resolve or isolate problems that you’re having with your Mac.

When you start up in safe mode, your Mac prevents some software, such as startup items, from loading, and it performs a check of your startup disk. Your Mac may take longer to start up because of the check.

This could be, but not necessarily, indicate a couple of things.

A good method to really see both Hardware and Software / how to two are inter-reacting together >>>

Suggest downloading the Application Etrecheck directly from a well Respected ASC Contributor - safe to use.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with nor receive compensation from the Developer.

The application is free or paid from added features.

Run the application with Full Disc Access ( Security & Privacy - Full Disc Access ).

It will take a Snap Shot -  both the hardware and software.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

Post back the Full Report - copy and paste - using the Additional Text Icon ( 3rd Icon to last )

We can have a look at the report for possible issues and may have possible suggestions to resolve the issues.

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS, alter, modify, remove or delete or attempt to do so is an invitation for disaster and may require a Reinstallation of the OS.
