Hi, Haley!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. We see that you are experiencing a problem listening to music from your iPhone while in your car, though it will still charge. We're happy to help!

Based on what you've described, we recommend following the steps under the "Connect using USB playback" section of How to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your car - Apple Support, which you can find below:

"Connect using USB playback

  1. Restart your device and your car.
  2. Make sure that your device is unlocked and on the Home screen.
  3. If possible, try to connect using another cable or USB port. Check the manual that came with your car to learn how to connect an Apple device.
  4. Check your charging port for any debris or damage. Make sure that your charging cable is properly inserted into the port.
  5. Update your device.
  6. Make sure that your stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.
  7. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support."

Best!

I have a 2011 Cadillac SRX with the same issue. I talked to Apple Support twice, including a next level support agent. I work for a cellular provider and part of my job is tech support, and I had completed literally EVERY step I could think of, and found online and what the agent had me try, if I hadn’t done it yet. Nothing worked. Eventually the agent and I came up with that it was definitely the iOS update and we will have to wait until the next update and hope it is fixed. Meantime, I’m either using my iPad, which is still on an older update, with an USB to USB-C cable, or using the lightning to aux adapter with my phone and they work. Bluetooth works too, but the audio and bass quality sucks compared to with a cable.

Still not working, and i also tried my daughter’s phone which i told her not to update the new ios and it’s working fine you can listen music while it’s changing the same cable same car so it’s the freaking new ios the problem and you guys just wasting people time by time by telling change cable check your car’s manual etc that is a waste it’s the new ios 15.1.1 please fix it. Simple.

Is there a fix for this yet? Do we just have to wait for next update? I’ve tried everything. Update iTunes, plug in different phone to car (didn’t recognize it), unplug car battery to reset everything (which annoyingly it did reset everything except didn’t fix issue) , cleaned terminals, bought brand new 25$ MF cord that I didn’t need (YW for the donation Apple!), restarted my phone, reset my phone, downloaded 1 song to library. Nothing works. Can charge phone in car via usb but car will no longer recognize my phone as something to play music from. It’s been fine for 5 or 6 years now won’t play any music.

i have tried my daughters phone which she did not update and i told her not to update and her phone works just fine, you can charge and listen music at the same time but mine which has the latest ios not working it only charges but doesn’t recognise my phone so it’s the new ios and apple has no idea how to fix so far so my guess is just wait for the next ios and hope that it will work and btw my car is Checy cruze 2014.
