Hi, Haley!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. We see that you are experiencing a problem listening to music from your iPhone while in your car, though it will still charge. We're happy to help!

Based on what you've described, we recommend following the steps under the "Connect using USB playback" section of How to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your car - Apple Support, which you can find below:

"Connect using USB playback

  1. Restart your device and your car.
  2. Make sure that your device is unlocked and on the Home screen.
  3. If possible, try to connect using another cable or USB port. Check the manual that came with your car to learn how to connect an Apple device.
  4. Check your charging port for any debris or damage. Make sure that your charging cable is properly inserted into the port.
  5. Update your device.
  6. Make sure that your stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.
  7. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support."

Best!

I just downloaded 15.2 put my usb cable into the USB port in my car. Hit the aux cd button. It actually didn’t work initially but then a random song started playing on my phone, which I thought was odd. So I then unplugged it and replugged it, next thing I know it said indexing my iPod (which is actually my iPhone) and everything worked like it used too!

I am ALSO having this problem- I really hope apple fixes this because I have not been able to play music through my phone to my car. I thought it was my charger cord so I changed it out and it still didn’t work! My phone will charge but not let me play music and mine started as SOON as I updated my phone. Before this new update I had no problems!!!!

Same here! Right after I upgraded my iPhone 11 Pro to iOS 15, I started to have all these problems.. I reset it, used alternate cables, Anker and original.

I did any and everything to try to get it to work, including deleting my phone from car play and reinstalling it. My husband has NOT upgraded his 12 Pro phone to 15, and everything works just fine with his. 😡

It’s definitely IOS 15. I like CarPlay, I miss my music and my great speakers. My car is a 2019 Hyundai Tucson.

Same issue here. 1996 Tacoma with iPhone 12 Pro Max and Alpine IDA-X100 stereo connected via USB using lightning adapter. No music or charging after updating from iOS 14 to iOS 15.1.1. Worked flawlessly in the past as far back as my iPhone 6. Had a friend come over with an iPhone and iPad still running iOS 14 and those work fine. It's clearly an iOS issue.

The potentially good news is I just got off the phone with Apple tech support. They are aware of the issue and hope to have a fix or work-around with the next update.

But how long will that take?? I had Apple support working with me for over 18 hours, trying to fix a problem with the keychain.

After all that time, and the case being escalated, the last support person, a supervisor, came on the phone and said that “oh yeah, we are of the problems with keychain, and are working on it.” When I asked how long this would take, she just said that technical support was working on it. And if they were aware of it, why didn’t the multiple support technicians have any information about it? It still doesn’t work properly all the time, I have to check each one and Airdrop it to my IPad.

Now if they are trying to fix it in the next upgrade, will they slow down the upgrade because they don’t have a fix? I’m tired of this, I just want my phone to work, and my music to play. My husband didn’t upgrade his phone, and he has no problems. Just no music. 🙁

Hi Apple support. Thanks for these suggestions but are you sure you read the posts on this thread? This is obviously an iOS update issue. Same thing happened with our Chevy equinox after we updated our phones to 25.1. It would be helpful if you acknowledged this rather than suggesting a bunch of steps that address every malady other than software update.
