Mac not recognizing SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable External SSD, any suggestions

I reformatted my SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable External SSD connected via a usb-c cable and now my cad will not recognize/find the hard drive I use for time machine back up. This is the first time I have had this problem

What can I do, any suggestion?

Hello Griffiths415,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, you've reformatted your enteral drive and now it won't show up to use on your Mac for Time Machine.

It sounds like you may have reformatted the disk with using an unsupported format. See: Erase and reformat a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac

To select the correct format, try: File system formats available in Disk Utility on Mac

We'd recommend using Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

After reformatting the disk, you can try to back it up using Time Machine: Back up your Mac with Time Machine

Let us know if that helps out, take care.

What file system did you use? What cable did you use? Does Disk Utility “see” the drive and is it mounted? if not can you mount it with Disk utility? Dis you format it with disk utility? So many questions. Explain more fully what you did, please.

Apparently your comment crossed my response. YOu formatted it using Parallels? in a windows format?

I’m confused now.

Great, thanks. How can I get my Mac to recognize the remote hard drive so I can format it? This is assuming I've raised they are drive incorrectly- I've checked the settings on finder to show remote hard drive but it's not showing up.

Also using parallels I have a Windows machine Burning and nuts not recognizing it either

Any help appreciated
