iMac 2011, Downloading photos from Sony XQD Card

I have a Mid 2011 iMac with 8 GB ram 2.5 GHz Core i5 running macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 loaded and have used it for cataloging/editing photos from a Nikon D90 downloaded from a SDHC card. I never encountered problems doing this. I recently purchased a Nikon Z6 which records photos to the new XQD Card, when I try to download photos using Adobe Photoshop Elements from the XQD card reader my iMac doesn't recognise it. I know technology has grown since 2011 and mine is at the max with the High Sierra, and things are getting a bit clunky. Is there something someone knows that might help to make the old work better with the new or is it time for a new iMac. If it's time for a new iMac what are the recommendations for someone who likes to catalog and edit photos?

Thanks for any reply

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 11

If you have been using PSE to access the card, I suspect that old version of PSE is what is lacking the support for the new card format. And Adobe no longer supports PSE11

I've never had any Nikon card read from the Finder on any of our Macs without a helper app. Try using Image Capture—you already own it. It acts as a translator enabling the computer to read card contents.

Nikon's image management software will also read the card but it has a bit of a learning curve, and current versions may not support High Sierra. Image Capture is super easy:

Well it appears the the card and camera should be supported ( https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204384 & https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211241) so my guess is you need to restart in Safe Mode and then restart normally and re-test.

Use Safe Mode to isolate issues with your Mac

You are also correct about your gear getting old so you may want to consider upgrading to a newer Mac.
