Java won't install on my mac OS X 10.9.5

I need to install java for a game i'm trying to use on the mac. I have OS X 10.9.5 and the latest version of java is java 8 update 311. I download it from their website and when i try to install it, i just get a blank install page with only the java logo. I've tried to troubleshoot as much as i can. I've used their uninstall thing and it says that it hasn't found anything to uninstall. I've even literally swiped the hard drive and reinstalled Mac OS. (this mac was given to me, so i was going to clear the hard drive anyways). Still, it will not install. I will include some pictures. I've tried all the troubleshooting that Java suggests, nothing works. They also said something about a java control panel, but I don't have that anywhere on my mac. It also says that downloading from a chrome browser may not work, i've also tried safari and firefox. I've also closed/quit the browser before attempting to install, as they suggest. That last picture is as far as i am able to get. It't not an issue of waiting for it to load, i've let it sit like that for hours with no success. Also, i can click the "next" button and it seems to be doing something. After clicking it four times, the install window goes away, but it still isn't installed. When i try to open the game it says "unable to load java runtime environment". Any help is greatly appreciated.

test / try to install previous version "7u80". (under Java SE Runtime Environment 7u80)

If this installs and works fine, then move ahead with update or installing newer version.
