apple care

I am getting a new MacBook for Christmas this year. The laptop has been ordered but I cannot open it until Christmas. I was wondering how long I have to purchase applecare+. I have read different things on various websites. Some say that it can only be purchased for 30 days after the date of purchase and other sites claim that it is 60 days. Please let me know which one it is so that I can try to figure it out.

Thank you!

It Varies:

Note that the date of purchase is the date it was delivered to you (not the date you ordered it on).

See Buy an AppleCare plan

You might be confusing the 90 day free support period with the 60 days grace period to buy AppleCare before the offer is withdrawn.

Apple also states on the linked page "In most countries and regions, you can buy AppleCare+ within 60 days of your device purchase." You do not state your location so I presume you are in North America.
