How to Avoid Accidental Back-to-Back Calls on iPhone 13 Pro Max

Since my new iphone 13 pro max (or maybe ios15?): when I hang up my call, i start immediately calling someone else, due to the fact the calling screen goes away so extremely fast if the other one on the phone is hanging up earlier: I press hang up, but the screen goes away so fast if the other one is faster, that I press calling the one in my list that was behind the "end phonecall button".

I didn't have this before, now I call 3 people a day by accident. Anyone else the same issue?

Called my boss last Sunday at 02:30 am when I was in a club and ended a call, asking my buddy where he is. What makes this even worse is the speed, that the iPhone dials up the phone connection. After calling my boss I pressed the hang up Butten literally 1/10 of a sec. later and still he got a missed call and called me back 5mins later, asking me what’s going on…
this ist the third time, this happend with my boss. He must think I am an absolute idiot… that’s why I googled for a fix and I am shocked that this problem is discussed since over a year.

As discussed, simply get in to the habit of ending calls with the side button. This avoids all potential for mishap.

When you are on a call and the other party hangs up your phone hangs up automatically also, and the button that you press to hang up becomes a callback button. So when you end a call don’t tap to hang up; just wait a couple of seconds and the call will end by itself. If the other party does NOT hang up then you can press the button to disconnect.

Found a workaround until Apple adds the delay back...

Go to Settings > Siri & Search > Call Hang Up > Turn on

You can now say "Hey siri, hang up" at the end of a call.

I've not seen this idea in 160+ replies so mark this helpful and bubble to top.

Whoever you're talking to will obv hear it, so I wouldn't use it for calls other than family and friends, but a late night call to the wife will no longer end with accidental calls to co-workers from the favorites screen.

FWIW, the side lock button to hang up is hit or miss for me (mostly miss) and no, I've not got it disabled.

Hello Everyone,

It seems I'm not the only one with this problem, I found a solution that so far has worked for me, I disabled the "Prevent Lock to End Call" (you can find this in Settings-Accesibility-Touch-Prevent Lock to End Call") and now, instead of hanging up the phone call from the red button on the screen, I just hang up using the "Lock" button.

I hope this works for you guys :)

My last workaround is worth repeating:

1) Go to Settings > Siri & Search > Call Hang Up > Turn on

You can now say "Hey Siri, hang up" at the end of a call.

I've since added a second workaround to my iPhone:

2) Populate your Favorites page with 8 numbers, and make sure that the bottom 3 or 4 are numbers you don't care calling by mistake, such as to a store. That way, when you hit one of the favorites instead of the hang up button, no harm is done.

Works for me until Apple adds back the short delay giving us a chance to hang up without dialing a favorite by mistake. I've notified Apple too, but, ya know...

In response to the suggestion for using the power button, it's hit or miss for me so I don't bother. I don't want to assume it worked then leave an open call in my pocket.

This is 2 viable solutions vs the debate and frustration in the thread. Hit the helpful button to bubble this to the top and help new people who come here with the same issue.

That is 100% not true. Android phones work like the iPhone used to. When the other end hangs up, there is a couple second delay where the hang up button goes away and it says "Call Ended" at the top. There is no "Call Ended" delay anymore on iPhone, but there used to be.

The workaround is to use the lock button to hang up. It is not a good workaround, though. It is a very simple fix.

Take off all the bells and whistles, and this device is first and foremost a phone.

Not for some of us.

It needs to be able to make, answer and end phone calls. How can you justify being bad at one of those 3 things for several years?

If you end the call by tapping the side button, you won't have this problem. You can also let Apple know your thoughts on the matter here:

I have a work around that handles some instances, since Apple seems to be unable to fix this problem.

I have an old landline number that just happened to be in my phone list that I checked that no one has this number anymore. I called the number to be sure. So I duplicated the is HOME number twice in my phone and placed all three homes HOME, HOME2 and HOME3 which all have the same defunct number, in my favorites list at just the right spot at the bottom of the first page of favorites, so when I try to hang up and my wife does it first, then I accidentally dial a dead phone number. Plus I moved my daughter in law completely out of the way, as she was the most frequent person who was being called accidentally.

I totally agree. This is super annoying and frankly I’m tired of having to explain to people that I didn’t intend to call them. It seems this is a big enough issue @apple that it’s time to stop ignoring people and do something about it! This discussion has been happening since 2021. Is three years not enough time to fix the problem?

Apple doesn't read here for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

Meanwhile, you can hang up using the power button on the side of the phone.
