Photo booth videos are saving as corrupted/blank files.

If I record a video on my mac photo booth that surpasses 3 or 4 minutes it saves as an empty video. 0:00 seconds and I'm unable to play it. This began happening after I updated to MacOS Monterey. I have put my computer into safe mode, changed, users, restarted, deleted photobooth library and made a new one etc. Any help would be great. I've attached a photo as an example.

Hi! Has anyone found a solution yet? This happened to me today when I recorded something on my PhotoBooth on my new 2021 Macbook Pro (running on Monterey OS). Really urgent for me to recover this .MOV file as right now it's not even playing and any free website converter I upload it to, it just says "error". Please help Apple!

For most video repair tools you will need another video recorded on the same microphone and camera, length of at least a minute seems recommended. Though there's no guarantee you will get the whole video back, it seems at the point of corruption most data is lost after that so I only recovered 25 mins of a 45 min video.

If you are comfortable with the command line, there is a free tool that I used to recover the video. Just make sure to provide the FF_VER=3.3.9 argument otherwise it did not work for me. This gave me the same result as any video repair site did without the price. The output video may appear to be choppy when played in QuickTime but in other players (like VLC) it was fine. Also the audio desynced at times on mine but that might just be bad luck.

Same issue here. Good to know I'm not alone, but it's very sad to read these replies and hear of the important footage that people have lost. I wasn't happy with the Monterey update; I had to do it just to open the latest version of numbers, trying to download a file for a coworker. Update took over an hour and by that point they had found another solution. So, I basically updated for no reason, and then had to reconfigure details to get things to look similar to the old version which I was happy with.

Now we've got apps not working---just disappointing; haven't experienced problems like this with Apple before, which is much of the reason I've stuck with Macs. If this isn't resolved quickly I'll be disuaded to use Apple. Hope you guys can get your footage back. My latest recording: it's a bummer to lose but thankfully wasn't as important as funeral footage, or project work.

I've been facing the same issue this month (100 years after the first complaints)! I need to produce 7 videos a day (since August 1st) and what drives me mad is that only at the end of the recording will I know if it actually recorded. It is a very stressful moment, my friend. Yesterday, I had the stupid

three times in a row after giving my best at every single recording. I was so mad, I just stopped working and took a 2-hour walk. Today, I'm scared of even trying again. I guess I'm gonna need an external camera. I bought this MacBook Pro (14", 2021) in February this year. The least I could expect is that it works, non?

Not sure how many of you will see this but - wow - I can't believe how many people are having the same issue! I'm sorry to hear it.

In an effort to alert Apple of this issue, I'd suggest everyone does an Apple Support Chat and request that this case be escalated. The more people complain, the more they care!

I hope they will resolve this soon.

I am so gutted. This just happened to me with an important video assessment I was trying to complete at work. I did a quick troubleshooting session through Apple Chat-the only thing we tried so far is rebooting in safe mode and trying to open the video that way which did not work. I will reach out to support again later today but am feeling pretty hopeless that it will be recovered. This is such a bummer.

Same issue with everyone else here!

Using a 2021 MBP M1, Monterey 12.6, built-in camera.

I recorded a few videos ranging from a few minutes to 40ish minutes, only one of they were showing up as 00:00 (image same as others). Super annoying as I really need the video, but cannot tell how to avoid this from happening! It doesn't happen every time but when it happens, there doesn't seem to be any way to tell during recording...During the recording it was all normal and I clicked stop (all pretty normally), and then it was corrupted when I checked the video.

I'm suspecting that one way to work around this issue is to 1. keep the laptop always plugged in and 2. make sure the screen doesn't go to sleep (not so sure...because my other videos were fine even when the screen went to sleep).

Need to hear Apple's solution!

UPDATE--

I contacted Apple support both over chat and over phone (after a long conversation over chat they told me this issue could only be resolved over phone, but then the first person who called me back actually did not know the issue at all and said they needed to transfer me to a different department...such a mess!).

After the end, they told me there's no way they could retrieve the content of such a corrupted file, and the only way I could do is to not use Photo Booth, but use QuickTime Player to record videos. They also said the engineers were aware of this issue and they might have an update....But my important video is gone and there is no solution at all on that...
