I am not getting Siri notifications for Apple exercise activities App

This issue began about two days ago after iOS 15.2 update and firmware update to 4C165 on my AirPods Max headphone, and update to iOS 8.3 (19S55) on my Apple watch.

Siri had been sending me voice notifications of my mile lap times, distance walked, closure of an activity I completed, and closure of the Red, Green, & Blue Movement, Exercise, and Stand rings in the Apple Exercise & Activity App.

These real-time voice notifications have stopped on my AirPods Max headphones, Model A2096, Serial # H0***1TV, after updating firmware to Version 4C165, and using my Apple 12 Pro Max iPhone, Model # MGCT3LL/A, Serial # F2*******D4C, Software Version 15.2, and my Apple 6 Watch, Model MOG93LLA, Serial # GY******1XQ, Software Version 8.3 (19S55).

Prior to these software and firmware updates, I was receiving notifications from Siri on both my Apple AirPods Max and my Apple AirPods Pro. I have tried restarting both Apple Watch and iPhone and checking settings to be sure that notification permissions are correctly set, along with other related settings. However, I am relatively new to using iOS and Apple products and may be overlooking something.

I recently started using AirPods Max instead of AirPods Pro for better noise suppression, especially of aircraft taking off in the flight path near where I walk, and because, as a result of better noise suppression, I can hear better at lower volume, and not potentially damage my hearing. In colder weather, the AirPods Max are also more comfortable to wear.

When I walk daily for 2-4 hours, I usually listen to free audio books using the OverDrive App, Version 3.10.2. The Activity App notifications always paused the audiobook narration, which then resumes when the notification ends. I also received notification from news and many other Apps. Some of these still continue, as previously, but not the Apple Exercise Activity App notifications.

I've tried to research and resolve this issue myself, but I can really use some help now.

Thanks, and cheers,

Joel

iPhone 11 Pro Max / iOS 15.4 / Apple Watch Series 7 / watchOS 8.5

Glad to see I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. I've gone thru and tried a multitude of different settings, as well as re-toggling setting like Voice Feedback & other settings. I usually just play music or podcast during my Outdoor Walk (Open Goal), but like you all have said, after some point it just stopped announcing stuff. Hope this gets resolved soon.

I tried to do this today, and no go. Even having the watch set to only push notifications through the headphones only, it still announced them through the speaker. I specifically made this account to follow this, as things were working perfectly fine before I updated my phone and my watch. I have tried to ask siri "what is my current workout status" and she replies with either "please unlock your iphone" or "I can't tell you that from your phone" to "You need to first be a user in the home app".

And I thought having siri hijack my audio during announcements was bad. At least I could tell siri to restart my music.

I look forward to Apple continuing to deny this is a problem, and it's what they intended.

I'm having the same issue with the Beats Fit Pro. I never really paid attention to when it stopped but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having this issue. Has anyone had any updates to this? I miss this feature so much. I was so excited when it got announced and to go this long without it has be questioning whether moving to a completely different app like RunKeeper would be better.

Just like to add that if I use the embedded fitness app, as soon as Siri announces my exercise ring has been closed, the volume of my music stays at the lowered level it is put at for Siri to make its announcement. Even telling Siri to raise the volume doesn't fix it as its volume also increases if I ask it to increase the volume of the music.

Come on Apple, fix this.

Update to this post, as of Sunday, Dec 19, 2021:

Trying to further identify this issue, I tried wearing my AirPodsPro to determine if they could receive walking activity updates from the Apple Exercise Activity App. I also began walking activities without either AirPods Pro or AirPods Max to determine if Siri was still announcing these notifications on my Apple Watch.

I could hear Siri announce these exercise App notifications on my Apple watch, when I removed my AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. I could also hear other notifications when wearing my AirPodsPro, such as from News Break, CBC News, New York Times, CNN, and Instagram, but I do not receive any notification when wearing my AirPods Max. When wearing these two devices, each are connected to both my iPhone and Apple Watch.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue?

Does it appear that this issue is related to the recent iOS and firmware updates?

Thank you again for any advice or suggestions.
