AirPods Pro keep randomly connecting to my iPhone while they are still in its case

My AirPods Pro have the latest firmware. For some crazy reason, when the buds are still in its case, it will randomly connect (momentarily) to my iPhone and then disconnect again. In fact, it will do this to whatever Apple device is nearby (my iPad Pro, my M1 Mac Mini, etc.). It's super annoying because when it does this, it will a) stop the audio from playing on the device because it's redirecting to my AirPods (that are still in the case!) and b) it quickly disconnects from the device, but it pauses whatever I was playing at the time in doing so.

I've seen other people post about this problem on this forum, but no one has come up with a solution. I've tried "forgetting" the AirPods and reconnecting them and it still happens. Again, this is intermittent and random, but happens quite frequently.

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 15.1.1

M1 Mac mini 2020, MacOS 12.0.1

AirPods Pro A2084, Firmware 4C1615

YES! Apple this is insane. Im tryna listen to my car radio and these stupid airpods keep automatically connecting while in case , silencing my car radio! now i ushaully just leave my airpods in my room and use my cheap cvs wireless headphones. I in no way see one feature of those airpods that makes it worth cutting out my radio while driving. ill just keep buyin 35$ cvs airpods that do same stuff but stay off my car radio!
