USB A ports no power after wake up

It's only a non-problem if you're OK with broken features and misbehaving hardware. Some of us aren't OK with letting problems slide just because we like apple.

I'll post again after my call with apple this afternoon for anyone who is curious where my escalated case goes with them.

Hi, yes, they want me to send the computer in to be serviced, as it is still in warranty. I can predict what will happen though: they will do a fresh install of the OS again, they will poke at it and find nothing broken, and send it back with the same existing problem.

I'm considering pursuing the option to simply return the computer and start using my Intel Mini again. Since my support ticket has been active since a month after I bought the M1 Mini, and they can't solve the problem, returning it should still be an option.

What is so hard about to understand this is a workaround not a fix. If there would be a "Turn off screen" button on the apple menu instead of the "sleep" button, then it would be fine. But sleep is still the standard thing to do when not using the mac.

hcsitas -- My connected USB drive spins up regularly when the computer's display is off and not allowed to sleep. Your advice is incorrect, because the rest of the system is still fully powered, wasting electricity, and killing the use-life of the product.

The "Genius" bar wanted to wipe my machine to see if it would fix the problem. It won't; I've already reinstalled the OS and set up a new user as a test (which is functionally no different from wiping and reinstalling everything), so they're wasting my time. The next step after they do this (and fail to fix the problem) would be to send it to apple to be looked at. Maybe I'll buy a pc as well and just keep taking the M1 back to apple to be "fixed" every time it disables its USB-A ports.

Ignore mystery behaviors for incorrect settings. The Sleep setting isn’t for the M1 as @den.thed has pointed. Just set it to what he’s shown above and forget about it.

Try charging your iOS devices with a wall charger instead of the M1 Mac Mini.

This does nothing to fix the USB issue; are just trying to pad your Level at this point? :D

I have changed the setting already, if that solves this little problem, it is ok.
