Apple CarPlay not working after iOS 15.2 update

I have iPhone 11 with 15.2 update. I have an 18 Chevy Cruze. Before iOS 15.2, I hadn’t updated out of the last 14 iOS version. So I recently updated straight to 15.2. CarPlay functions fully except for ONE THING: whenever I use the button on my steering wheel to have Siri place a call, Siri will say “ok calling….” And then nothing comes out of the speakers. The recipient of my call says they answer the call and it’s just static. Now, if I place the call manually either through my phone or by pressing the buttons on my radio, it goes through just fine. But using the dictation feature through the steering wheel causes a glitch I guess? It just won’t come through the speakers. I have reset my car infotainment system to factory, I have reset all CarPlay settings on my phone. Nothing works so far. The problem is the update. My phone/CarPlay has functioned through all the updates until the 15 version. I can receive calls. I can make calls manually but I can’t use the button on the steering wheel to make a call. Now that defeats the purpose of handsfree doesn’t it? Something was changed during the update or something caused a glitch. Anyone else having this issue?

Sorry to hear some of you are having issues.

I'm just saying, if this were a widespread problem, everyone would likely experience it. Maybe it is an iOS 15.2 issue; perhaps it is not. All I can say is I use CarPlay daily with my iPhone 11 running 15.2 and do not have a problem. I know that does not help your situation other than to say that this is not a major 15.2 issue.

Have you tried some of the simple stuff like...

A different cable
Re-pairing your phone to your car (and explicitly removing the CarPlay configuration and redoing it)
Restart your iPhone and, if applicable, restart your car's infotainment system.
Make sure Siri is enabled.
Make sure CarPlay is not restricted. Some do not know you can block Carplay from being used. This is done under Screentime, I think.
Similarly, iOS 15 introduced the "Focus" feature, and perhaps your current settings are messing up CarPlay. I'll admit, the Focus feature does feel confusing, and I stumble over it from time to time doing other things.
Check whether Carplay is allowed when locked.

If you use your favorite search engine you will find that an early model of Pioneer head units had problems with CarPlay and it was their issue. Sadly the firmware in that model could not be updated. Have you reported the issue to Pioneer?

The model I got is the avh4500nex .. no issues for the past 3 yrs with different iPhones .. and yes I report this to the dealer not to pioneer and they tried many steps to solve the issue w/o any success . Will try contacting pioneer . Thanks

I just upgraded to an iPhone 13 with iOS 15.4.1 and suddenly the audio for my calls only allows for speaker or phone, even when I am making a call through CarPlay. It's extremely frustrating.

I have re-paired my phone to my car twice.

I have tried 4 different cables

Siri is enabled

CarPlay is not restricted

The "Focus" feature is turned off

CarPlay is allowed when locked

I have even called Apple support on this issue and they couldn't help me.

I don’t blame you or anyone if he or she ditch iphone and replace it with any android phone that can pair and connect like charm .. it appears that Apple guys no longer bother of their clients frustration.. in-fact it appears that they now depend on teenagers users than adults whom drive cars .. sorry to say this but it’s likely the truth .

I’m having trouble with my car play too since an update. I can usually receive messages or either can’t reply or it sends the last word. I took it to the dealership n they can’t help. This defeats the purpose of hands free driving ! Please advise. I have reprogrammed it to no avail!

Thanks for all the help everybody - I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and a 2020 Honda Insight - lost CarPlay like the rest of your - just got it back by Factory resetting my infotaiment system. We will see if stays working. Wired not wireless my car doesn’t support wireless.

I have had this issues since March 4, 2022 when I updated to 15.2. Voice command works but call does not go through speakers & recipient only hears static. I have talked to Apple 8 times, no resolution except to say they will have their engineers look into it. My car dealership spent 2.5 hours troubleshooting this & we have proven (by testing with other phones - Samsung, iphone that was not update to IOS 15 - that the update is responsible. A brand new iPhone 13 had the same issue as my iPhone 8. I can only make a call through the speakers if I am @ a red light & make calls manually - kind of defeats the purpose of the car's hands free feature. BUT, last Monday I took my charger with me as the phone needed to be charged & decided to test. With the phone plugged in, hands free worked. Any thoughts before I get aggravated calling Apple again.?

if i got your point correct, yes all iphone users both newly updated ios 15 or later , and iphone 13 users if they uses the wired connection ( cable connected to the audio system of the car ) their phones will work .

the issue is if you want to connect your iPhone wirelessly.

Oh I don’t know for sure but I believe Mazda and Toyota share some components and suppliers.

Just curious, for those who reported having problems with 15.2, did you try the 15.2.1 update that came out yesterday? It was somewhat vague, but it was supposed to have some Carplay fixes.
