I have most of my files and videos etc on cloud storage. I didn't get around to doing a disc image or a roll back date thingy.

I only used the reinstall option whenI got into safe mode. I didn't see an 'erase' option there.

I restarted but have got the option for establishing the internet connection. I followed the instructions to connect but when I got the screen to put my user password in the ouse cursor wouldn't move!

So I will have to do this again and see it it works next time.

I will start over now

Hi Jack

I eventually erased the Macintosh HD and the Volume Group. It said it erased and creating 'Mackintosh HD"

However there are also Disk Images under the list that look full.

Apple Disc Image Media (macOS Base System = 1.79GB

Then Container disk3 (APFS Container) 1.79 GB (Almost full)

Then macOS Base System 1.79 shared by 2 volumes (APFS System Volume . APFS) macOS 11.6.2 (20G314)

Do I need to delete or alter these at all?

Thanks Jack, Just another 2 hours and 18 minutes to wait and then I can see if it will load properly or get stuck again.

If it sticks again could I try just returning the computer to factory setting?

I am not sure how I will know if the HD needs replacing or not?

Hi Jack,

I have now a 'Transfer information to this Mac' and my computer is currently looking for another Mac, Time Capsule or a disk that I am transferring from.

Well I assumed it would locate the strap disk but obviously not!! lol

So what are my options now?
